I am thrilled to announce the SEDNA National Mirror, an online tournament on SUNDAY, March 23rd. This is a mirror of the SEDNA set, which is of MS/HS Novice difficulty. I, Andrew Gao, will be the tournament director.
This tournament is open to novice high school teams and all middle school teams, with no geographic restrictions. However, teams with a local mirror of the set are strongly encouraged to play that instead. High school teams are expected to determine in good faith if they are novice, but I reserve the right to make the final decision.
Registration & Fees
Register teams using this form. Outside staffers will be paid $25 for staffing the whole tournament and may sign up here. Team registration will close on March 20th at 3:00 PM ET.
Base fee: $70 per team
Late fee (not fully paid by, April 6th, 2 weeks after the tournament): +$30 per team
Shorthanded (1-2 players) discount: -$20 per shorthanded team
Staff discount: -$25 per staffer
There will be a minimum fee of $0 per school. Teams who cancel after March 20th at 3:00 PM must pay the full fee, barring extenuating circumstances. Teams will receive a confirmation email after registering. Payment info will be contained within, and teams are expected to pay via Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or check in a timely manner.
Title I/low-income schools, rural schools, or schools that have difficulty attending in-person tournaments should check out my Quizbowl Grant Program—they may be eligible to play for free. Proceeds from this tournament will go towards funding grants.
Rules
Rosters are capped at 6 players per team, but only 4 players may play at once. We will use NAQT gameplay rules some modifications (e.g. untimed rounds). As this is an online tournament, players are expected to adhere to PACE’s Honor Code and active players must show TWO HANDS on camera. Any suspicions of cheating will be investigated and may be reported to quizbowl organizations. Teams must be composed of players from the same school (i.e. no “chimeras” or open teams) and from the class of 2025 or younger.
Format
There will be a High School Division (for Novice teams) and a Middle School Division (with no skill restrictions). There will initially be a combined field cap of 24 teams, but this will increase with sufficient interest and staffers. All teams will be guaranteed at least 8 games. We will have rounds of 20 tossups and 20 three-part-bonuses. 15-point powers and negative-5-point interrupt penalties (“negs”) are in play. There is no computational math.
Games will be played on Discord, with Buzzin.live for buzzing. Each individual player must have their own Discord account to join the tournament server. An account can be made here.
Stats & Prizes
Team and individual stats will be posted on hsquizbowl.org within 24 hours. There will be live stats up to the game with my Live Stats Hub and category/subcategory stats.
Conduct
Anyone involved with the tournament, including but not limited to: coaches, players, staff, tournament directors, and spectators will adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct. Misconduct can be reported to this form and/or sent to [email protected].

There is just under a week left to register for the SEDNA National Mirror and plenty of room for teams in either division! If you are a high school team with newer players or a middle school team looking for a nationwide field, register now!

The SEDNA National Mirror happened today! Full stats from today can be found here. Category stats are here.
At the end of the triple round-robin, Johns Creek won with a perfect 9-0 record. Cistercian finished second. Thanks to the staffers (Aditya Aras, Ivan Harder, Crystal He, and Fallon Paxton) for making the tournament possible! Have a great rest of your season, everyone!
