2018 HSNCT Discrepancy

Post by quizbowlchamp1 »

So I was (for no reason) looking through stats from the 2018 HSNCT. When I saw this game...

Does anyone know why this happened? I think TJ could've won this game. Why did they forfeit? If you know, please answer.

MSNCT All Star 2025 (7th Place)
1st Place ASCA D2 MS State 2024
2nd Place ASCA D1 MS State 2025
ASCA All Star 2023
ASCA D2 All Star / MVP 2024
ASCA D1 All Star / MVP 2025 (new state record)

literally the most balanced MSNCT record ever (12-12)
still crashing out over 2025 MSNCT

They had a flight to catch. Actually, if I recall correctly, both teams that should have played in the third-place game had a flight to catch and thus would have forfeited, but TJ told me first, so they got stuck with the loss.

The 2018 HSNCT was the first year using the "sessions" scheme and thus with playoffs extending late into Sunday night. I think the top teams have learned to plan flights differently now.

As noted on HSNCT liveblog coverage five years ago.

Although, I hadn't heard the part about LASA also needing to catch their flight.
