ISS, Grissom, BMHS, and Hoover will all be worse. Russellville and BMHS are the best young teams, and if both can continue to improve, they'll make state finals in both formats.

Will have to say that there more than likely will not be a team from Scottsboro in the coming years...

Predictions:

1) This thread will die due to lack of people caring.

2) Brindlee Mountain will not be as good as we have been.

3) Russellville will do good.

4) Hoover will do good.

5) Scottsboro will not exist.

I know they have never been much good before (ever actually). But my Alma Mater Gadsden City has a good crop of freshmen coming in. If they'd go to tournaments they have the talent to do well.

Are you a grad of GC, or Gadsden (or Litchfield, or Emma Sansom?)

Russellville SHOULD be pretty good. If they can keep working, I think they have a shot to finally break the glass ceiling.

Matt Dennis - formerly of Scottsboro - is now coach at DAR High School. That should make things interesting, especially in Marshall County. Just so you all know, DAR and Brindlee Mountain are huge inner-county rivals in all activities.

DAR will probably take second at county this year, but if Matt can make even a decent building year and Brindlee Mountain's team continues to be as apathetic as some of them are, DAR could make some noise in Alabama for the first time.

They where not too bad this past year, I mean third at marshall county and I beleive they have everyone from last years team coming back (even the guy with the mutton chops!) All of that should bode well for them

I've always thought that DAR had a lot of potential. Matt is a great coach who can really tap into that. If he can get them motivated at all, they could give us a run for the money this year easily. County definitely won't be a given for us anymore. Also, Matt's daughter will probably be on the team. She was putting up some impressive numbers at UTC when she was in 7th and 8th grade playing on Scottsboro's high school team. She will only get better.

Also, I look forward to going to some tournaments at DAR. It's closer than Scottsboro.

I have been scouting out what is left of my team at DAR and right now I have 2 junior left and my daughter (a freshman). I am really hoping to do some good recruiting and get the team a good start for our building year. I talked to one of the guys on the phone the other day and he seemed very gung ho to get started and I will give them a call next week to see what they have in the way of plans..
I am personally looking forward to getting started with the program and hopefully staying around for a while, I actually tired of this Pied Piper routine I have been pulling in the last few years...
Lee, we are planning on hosting at least one tournament this year but we are trying to find the right date, you know my stats person (wife) and her football. I also know that our first real tournament should be UTC unless something very very strange happens between now and Sept...

You guys get to see ME!

I'm not sure when Alabama plans to host the WRK tournament, but I'll make sure DAR gets and invite now.

I hope this is a good place to post this, and I hope people from the 'ham frequent this board.

I'm a Classics and Music major at Samford who did quiz bowl all through HS (and middle school) in Alabama (MS and Grissom, my freshman year) and North Carolina. Samford doesn't have a team, and I don't have any other interested parties to push for starting one. I would love to volunteer with a team in the Birmingham area--middle or high school.

This is me offering my services. I can write questions, help with practices, help with tournaments, whatever. If anyone knows anyone who might like a college student to help out with their team or tournament, let me know.

My email is navander (at) samford (dot) edu.

Nancy

Follow 431 like you are going to go to Huntsville for Boaz... then you should see the sign after pass through Claysville and after the split for 79 that you took to come to Scottsboro... then you will see a sign for Cathedral Caverns and Grant on the right turn and follow the road up the mountain. The school is on the left at the only stop light in Grant...

How many players return from Brindlee Mountain A anb or Hoover's Chicago lineup?

Brindlee Mountain A has NO returning members.... Kyle and Ryle will be returning
Andy, Amanda, Justin, Casey, Nick, Mark, and John have all graduated

Wow. We (Norcross) split with Brindlee A last year, but it sounds like they are in the same boat as Norcross. We have two strong B players and a tremendous JV player moving up, but lost all our regular A starters.

Heh, Ryle.

But yeah, Both the A and B team return 0 members, save Riley from the A team. I am very sorely regretting not setting a better example, because they could be a whole lot better if they had more dedication.

I've got some plans for them. We're going to be a more focused team. I'm not going to inundate them with practice, but we are going to have more productive practices than ever before. They will do okay. I don't expect a national championship or anything, but I think we can be strong competitors in the state tournaments.

Looks like UA is going to be hosting the first tourament of the season again. If someone has a list of teams going to the tournament (if such a list exists) can post it, perhaps we can make some predictions and try to rez this thread.

We should be at UA. Our new principal nixed our scholar's bowl class. In fairness, though, he also got rid of all athletic classes, too.... So, we'll be practicing solely after school. I might even try to have a few before school morning practices. It's gut check time to see how dedicated these guys are going to be.

Lee,
I think I might have to do a few before school practices also due to the fact it looks like I have at least 2 on the football team...

List of teams attending W. R. King Tournament:

Dorman (3 teams)
Brookwood (2)
J. M. Tate
American Christian Academy (?)
Chattahoochee
Hoover (2)
Brindlee Mountain (2)

It's suprising (to me, at least) that most of the teams are from out-of-state, with only 3 Alabama teams in attendance.

Slade, any reason why Russellville isn't coming?
