Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is pleased to announce the Thomas Jefferson Novice Academic Tournament (TJNAT) on Saturday November 23, 2024!
QUESTION SET:
The tournament will use SEDNA, an introductory question set intended for both middle school and novice high school players. This tournament will be a great opportunity for new teams and players to play introductory-level questions. More information about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=28074
TJNAT's current field cap is 24, but this may increase depending on room and staffer availability. Please sign up by November 17th, 2024. Teams will be limited to at most 6 people, so schools planning to bring more than 6 students should register another team. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams may have fewer than 4 people.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any player who has more than two years of high school pyramidal Quizbowl experience or has attained greater than 25 PPG at a national tournament is not eligible. Any player part of a school who is in their first year of playing pyramidal, non-VHSL quizbowl is automatically eligible. We ask that experienced teams use discretion when creating rosters, and we reserve the right to request rosters in order to check eligibility.
Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about eligibility.
LOGISTICS:
Registration will begin at 8:30 AM, and we will have an opening meeting at 9:15 AM where we will explain the rules and regulations. Pizza will be available to preorder closer to the tournament date, and will be delivered by lunchtime. The tournament will be held at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312). Our tournament is set for November 23th if weather permits, but if not, we will reschedule for a later date.
FEES AND DISCOUNTS:
The base fee is $85 per team, with $70 for each successive team.
-$5 per each fully functional buzzer set (having at least 8 working buzzers and a working control box)
-$10 if more than 100 miles traveled one way - determined by Google Maps.
Minimum registration fee: $50 per team
Registration fees should be paid by check. Checks should be made payable to TJHSST Quizbowl with your school’s name and Registration Fee in the memo line. Please do not mail checks. Instead, bring them on the day of the tournament. Payment the day of the tournament is preferable. Please email us if you have any payment issues.
Drops should be communicated by November 17th, and later changes may be subject to fees.
