GDS Quizbowl is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our second middle school quizbowl tournament on November 2, 2024, from 9:00am until about 5:00pm. Registration begins at 8:15am. The tournament will be in-person at GDS’s middle school (4200 Davenport St, NE, Washington, DC 20016). We will have both middle (8th grade & younger) and elementary (6th grade & younger) divisions making it a perfect tournament for both expert and novice/younger students. All students will participate in 8 rounds, and the question set will be NAQT MS-52.
Registration:
Please register through NAQT here. We will start by capping both divisions at 12 teams. However, we will expand the fields depending on interest and volunteers. (So, please sign up to volunteer!)
QB4ALL Partnership:
GDS is proud to partner with Quizbowl for All (QB4ALL) to provide quizbowl to all interested students. If any students receive free or reduced lunch (or registration costs would otherwise be prohibitive), registration fees will be waived.
Tournament Fees:
Base fee per team: $90
Reader discount: $10
Buzzer discount: $5
QB4ALL discount: $22.50/student for a 4-person team; $30/student for a 3-person team; $45/student for a 2-person team; and $90 for a 1-person team.
To receive discounts, please email. [email protected] with the following information:
(1) Tournament name & date (i.e., GEMINI, 11/2)
(2) School name
(3) Team (e.g., A, B, C)
(4) Number of students on the team
(5) Number of students receiving the discount
Do not include student names.
Volunteers:
We need more readers and scorekeepers. We will be using TJ Sheets, but we can train any scorekeepers with a quick video. If you have volunteers, please let us know here.
MSNCT Qualifications:
The top 15% of all teams will qualify for the Middle School National Championship Tournament (MSNCT). While teams in the elementary division (again, 6th grade and younger) will count toward our total number of teams, elementary division teams are not eligible for qualification.
In other words, if we have 12 teams in the MS division and 12 teams in the ES division, the top 15% of total teams will qualify (15% of 24 total teams is 3.6 teams, which rounds up to 4 teams). So, the top 4 teams in the MS division would qualify for MSNCT.
Payment:
We will accept payment through cash or check on the day of the tournament.
Food:
For lunch, we will be selling pizza. There are also many restaurants within walking distance.
If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected].
Thank you!
