WaShBowl - UK written Pop Culture 2-dot tournament

Post by RobertCrawley »

I, on behalf of an assortment of students and ex-students from the Universities of Warwick and Sheffield (plus a few guests), am excited to announce that WaShBowl, a UK-written, student-aimed, 2-dot pop culture tournament. The set is due to be played at the University of Warwick on the 9th March 2024, with plans for an open mirror at some point later that summer. The set will be available for other mirrors on or after 9th March 2024.

The set has been written with an attempt to cover all aspects of pop culture, and the distribution of the set is as follows:

Film 2/2
TV 2/2
TV and Film 1/1
Music 3/3
Sport 3/3
Food/Drink 1/1
Musicals 1/1
Video Games 1.5/1.5
Lit/Comics/Graphic novels 1/1
Lifestyle 1/1
Internet/meme 1/1
Other games 0.5/0.5
Crossover 1/1
Writer's Choice* 1/1

*Writer's choice exists partly to cover for any other areas we've missed, and partly to offer an overflow for any areas we've otherwise underrepresented (at least in the writer's minds)

The set has been written with a UK audience in mind, but if anyone is interested in running a mirror of this tournament outside of the UK, please either reply to this post or contact me at [email protected] and we can discuss logistics and mirror fees. Equally, if anyone has any other questions about the set, feel free to either reply here or email me at the above email.

We hope those who came to the first mirror of WaShBowl last weekend all enjoyed it, and our congratulations to Southampton Gaslight for their win in a nail-biting final against Social Media Influenzas.
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the excellent writers and editors who worked very hard to get WaShBowl from a pipe dream to a reality in about a year. WaShBowl would not have been possible without their dedication and contributions, and so they deserve some recognition and appreciation. They were:
Abby Akarapongpisakdi - Writer and Music Editor
Andrew Fisher - Writer and Former Head Editor
Ben Hubner - Writer and Crossover Editor
Daisy Fry - Writer and Musicals Editor
Danny Lardner - Writer and Literature Editor
Jack Lewis - Writer
Jenna Carolan - Writer, TV Editor and Film and TV Editor
Joe Crowther - Writer
Katy Marchant - Writer
Lewis Jones - Writer
Liam Hughes - Writer
Luke Beresford - Writer, Lifestyle Editor and Food and Drink Editor
Matthew Bliss - Writer, Video Games Editor and Former Head Editor
Robert Crawley - Writer, Film Editor, Film and TV Editor, Other Games Editor, Writer's Choice Editor and subsequent Head Editor
Theo Howe - Writer, Sport Editor and Memes and Internet Editor
Our thanks also to Abby Akarapongpisakdi, Aidan Tee, Ben Hubner, Daisy Fry, Danny Lardner, Dillon Patel, Ethan Webb, Jenna Carolan, Joe Crowther, Matthew Bliss and Theo Howe for giving up their Saturday to moderate the tournament, and to Robert Crawley for acting as Tournament Director.

There are still a couple of planned mirrors so the set is not clear yet. If anyone else is interested in hosting a mirror, there is still time, so get in contact with me at [email protected]
