[Cancelled] Halloween Hippopotamus Invitational Online Playtest

Hello everyone!

The online playtest of the Halloween Hippopotamus Invitational (yes, there’s been a name change) will be held October 7th, 2023 over Discord.


Logistics:
The playtest will commence at 10 AM Eastern (7 AM Pacific). The invite to the Discord server will be sent out approximately a week prior to the event. Competitors can register either as a team or as free agents.

We will tentatively set a team cap at 8 teams of 4 players each - this is subject to change depending on interest and availability of moderators.

Eligibility (copied from Penn Bowl):
This tournament is open to all “open” players (that is, players not currently affiliated with any academic institution). We encourage those affiliated with a school or other institution to play their regional mirrors, announcements for which are forthcoming. If you do not fit either of those categories but would like to play this mirror, please contact [email protected] explaining your situation.

Payment:
The fee for this tournament will be $15 per player. This is primarily to help us cover room reservation costs for the main HHI event.

We accept and prefer Venmo for payment, but alternate forms can be set up if necessary. Please email me at [email protected] if you require an alternate form of payment.

We intend to charge $50/team, but please contact us if your school is interested in hosting but cannot afford the fee - we are willing to agree on a reasonable fee on a case-by-case basis.

Is there any chance the date could be changed so as not to overlap with the ILLIAC II Online Open Playtest? Additionally, I don't appear to be able to access the registration spreadsheet.

Thanks for the heads up - didn't realize that ILLIAC was the same weekend. If we pushed things back to Sunday (the 8th) would folks be okay with that, or is the general consensus that moving it back a full week would be better?

I personally don’t mind either way, but it could be worth making a date poll.

Alright - given the outcome of the date poll, we'll host the playtest on October 8th instead of the 7th.

Due to insufficient interest, this playtest is being cancelled. We will still run the main event, and if anyone would like to take a look at the questions to help us double-check or even just out of curiosity, please let me know.
