WESTVIEW Online Invitational (5/6/23)

Westview High School (Oregon) is thrilled to announce the Westview's Extremely Seattle-ish-ite Tournament of Various Intellectually Exciting Warriors! The tournament will be directed by Ishan Ghosh and me, Karthik Krishnamurthy.

Date/Time: The tournament will be on Saturday, May 6, 2023. We expect the tournament to run from 9 AM to 6 PM Pacific, with a 1-hour lunch break around noon PT. The opening meeting will begin at 8:45.

Location: This tournament will be held online over Zoom and Discord. We will send out a link to the Discord server a few days before the tournament. Zoom links can be accessed from the Discord server. For buzzing, we will be using buzzin.live.

Eligibility: The tournament will be open to Pacific Northwest high schools from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alberta, and British Columbia, as well as relatively Quiz Bowl-isolated states like Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.

Question Set: The question set we will be using is IS-216A. This is a good introductory set for new Quiz Bowl teams.

There will be a cap of two teams per school. Please register before May 1! We are implementing a soft cap of 10 teams.

Cost: The cost will be $60 for each team. There is a $25 discount for each scorekeeper or reader a team brings, in addition to a $20 discount for schools that didn't play Quiz Bowl before September 1, 2021 (unless the teams include players who played Quiz Bowl before September 1, 2022). The minimum fee for a school is $20. Invoices will be sent to each school after the tournament, and payment can be made through PayPal or Venmo. Please pay by May 13.

Safety and Misconduct: We expect players, coaches, staff, tournament directors, and spectators to adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct. Misconduct can be reported at this form.

Since this is an online tournament, players cannot use any outside material, such as notes or the Internet, during the tournament (as that would be cheating). Violations will result in the player being banned from the tournament and their team disqualified. We reserve the right to report any incidents of cheating or other violations to other Quiz Bowl organizations and coaches. We also expect that players have at least one hand on camera at all times.

Our team can't make it this time - but we hope to see more west coast tournaments in the future! We would generally be in for this, but the overlap with both SATs and APs makes it challenging this time.

Congratulations to Renert School, who won the WESTVIEW Online Invitational with an undefeated 10-0 record! Carbon A went 7-3 to finish in second place. Congratulations to Brendan Guilfoyle of Renert as well for finishing as the #1 individual scorer, with 74.00 PPG.
