Post by cchow5657 »

The Midwest mirror of Canadian Novice will be held at Northwestern University on Saturday, April 29th, 2023. More information about the tournament and the set can be found here. The tournament director will be Chris Sims. I, Chloe Chow, will be the contact point for pre-tournament logistics, available at [email protected].

Logistics:
This tournament will be held on April 29th in Locy Hall (1850 Campus Dr, Evanston, IL 60208). Gameplay will start at 9 AM Central time.

Rules and Code of Conduct:
This tournament will use ACF’s gameplay rules with their addendum for the inclusion of powermarks. Any team that complies with ACF's eligibility rules may play.

Eligibility:
As this is a novice tournament, it is aimed toward newer players. Players are not eligible to play in the tournament if they meet any of the following criteria:
You have ever scored more than 60 points per game at a quizbowl tournament (excluding middle school tournaments).
You have made the playoffs at HSNCT or top 32 at NSC.
You have played ICT (DI or DII) or ACF Nationals.
If you meet one or more of these criteria but believe you still should be eligible, please email [email protected] and CC us at [email protected].

Fees and Payment:
Base fee: $120
Minimum Fee: $40
Buzzer discount: -$10 per working buzzer
Staffer discount: -$15 per staffer (all staffers must bring a laptop)
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles traveled (one-way)
New to quizbowl discount: -$40. A team is considered new to quizbowl if they have not played a college tournament (excluding novice-only tournaments) since before September 1st, 2020.
We are able to accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or check.

Registration:
To register for the tournament (or if you have any questions), please email me at [email protected]. This tournament will have an initial field cap of 12 teams but we are looking to expand to 16 if there is interest.

We currently have two teams from University of Nebraska and one house team.

Field Update 4/25: We now have three teams from Nebraska, two teams from UChicago, and 1-2 house teams, depending on if anyone else signs up.
