MRNA II @ Cornell (3/11/2023)

Cornell Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce we will be hosting a mirror site of MRNA VACCINE II, a medium difficulty college tournament to be held on March 11th, 2023. Richard Niu will serve as tournament director. The opening meeting will be held at 9:00 AM EST, with the first round beginning 9:15.

Location and Directions:
The tournament will take place at Upson Hall, and we recommend parking in the lot behind Upson Hall.

Eligibility:
This tournament is for teams of eligible players representing a single institution of education. No "mixed" or "open" collegiate teams are permitted at this site.

Games will be conducted in the normal 20/20 tossup/bonus format; other than the inclusion of power tossups, the ACF rules will be used. The tournament format will endeavor to offer each team the maximum number of games possible within a reasonable timeframe, and will be determined in specific based on the number of teams who register.

Format:
Rounds will consist of 20 tossups with three-part bonuses. There will be powers and negs, but no bounce back on bonuses. Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets and playoff brackets will be determined based on preliminary record. All teams will be offered a minimum of 8 games, and statistics will be kept in full. Rounds will not be timed. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated during the tournament.

Fees:
The fees for the tournament are as follows:
Base fee: $120
-$10 discount per working buzzer system
-$10 discount for teams that provide a staffer
-$10 discount per 200 miles traveled one way from your school to Cornell as determined by Google Maps.
Minimum fee per team: $40

Teams can register for this tournament by sending an email to [email protected]. When registering, please let us know how many teams, buzzers, and staffers you expect to bring. In addition, please list the rosters of each team you bring. The initial field cap is set at 12 teams.

Payment:

Please pay @Nathan-Zhang-18 on Venmo, or with cash the day of the tournament.

Team Size:
Teams will consist of up to four active players and up to two substitutes for a total of six players per team. Players may not transfer between teams. Teams may play shorthanded, with fewer than four players, but there is no discount for doing so.

Prizes:
After the tournament concludes we will provide book prizes to the top individual scorers.
