Blatantly Academic Greyhound Spring (3/11, Online, IS-215)

Post by jseigel »

General:
This spring, the Carmel High School quiz bowl team will be hosting the Blatantly Academic Greyhound Spring (BAGS), an online tournament meant for the best teams from around the US (or the world!) to compete for the ultimate BAG. I, Jordan Seigel, along with Archit Kalra, will serve as the tournament directors. At the moment we will have a cap of 12 teams but are open to expanding it based on interest.

We will be running this tournament on IS-215, an NAQT regular level set. Teams consist of four players (more can rotate in and out as substitutions, maximum of 6 players on one team). All players on a team must be from the same school; we will not accept any chimera teams.

Games will consist of two 10-tossup halves, with 3-part bonuses. There will be 15-point powers for early answers and 5-point negs for incorrect answers before the end of a tossup. There are no bounce backs on bonuses. We can guarantee 8 rounds for each team.

Registration:
Registration for BAGS will be through NAQT.
https://www.naqt.com/registration/field ... t_id=14374

If you have any questions or need any assistance, email [email protected], and we will get back to you as soon as possible. The finalized schedule will be sent out closer to the date, but a rough duration would be from 9 AM to sometime around 4 PM Eastern Time, with included lunch break. Registration closes on March 4, 2023.

Eligibility:
All high schools from around the world are welcome to attend.

Schools may submit more than one team to this tournament. If you wish to submit multiple teams, please designate each team by decreasing strength with a letter, starting with A. For example, if Carmel High School were to submit 3 teams, we would expect their strongest team to be named Carmel A, the second-strongest to be Carmel B, and the third-strongest to be Carmel C.

Fees and Discounts:
Registration: $80 for first team, $70 for each additional team
-$20 New to quiz bowl discount (has never played pyramidal quiz bowl or has not played pyramidal quiz bowl since 3/5/2019)
Minimum fee of $50.

Payment:
Plan to pay via Zelle (Email TBD) or by mailing a check made out to "Carmel High School Quiz Bowl Team", addressed to 520 E Main St., Carmel, IN 46032. Please contact us if this system does not work for you.

If BAGS sounds of interest to you or your team, don’t hesitate to sign up. For any further questions, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Thank you for your interest, and happy buzzing!

I don't see a Google Form for registration, but we (East Chapel Hill) have registered via NAQT.

Hi Max,

Sorry for the confusion- We just changed from the google form to NAQT registration instead, so you're all set!

By the way- Archit Kalra says hello to all his friends at East Chapel Hill!
