Eagles' Academic Spring Tournament III [IS-220A, 03/04/23]

Post by Avinash Aravind »

Hello everyone!

Edison High School Quiz Bowl is proud to announce the third annual Eagles’ Academic Spring Tournament (EAST), which will be hosted in-person for the first time on Saturday, March 4th, 2023!

Tournament Directors: Avinash Aravind and Vinay Menon

Date: March 4th, 2023 at 8:00 AM EST

Location: Edison High School, 50 Boulevard of the Eagles, Edison, NJ, 08817

Set: IS-220A (NAQT Introductory Invitational/Easy High School)

Rules: We will use standard NAQT timing rules with 20 tossup/bonus cycles and no timed halves. Five seconds will be allotted for answering tossups, and five seconds will be allotted for answering bonuses unless otherwise stated. We will not use computational math tossups but we will allow computational math bonuses.

Food and Schedule: Pizza will be available for purchase; the order form will be sent out after registration. Check-in will begin at 8:00 AM, with an opening meeting at 8:30 and round 1 beginning at 9:00.

Registration and Fees: Please sign up through our NAQT tournament listing here: https://www.naqt.com/registration/field ... t_id=13642

The following fee structure will be used:

$85: First team
$75: Additional team
-$10 per buzzer system brought
$50 minimum

We have a field cap of 18 teams. Because of the limited field size, we are limiting each school to only one additional team (for a total of 2) at this tournament, although this may change in the future. Furthermore, we will require that all teams submit rosters by February 27th, five days before the tournament. This is to ensure that we can create balanced schedules for the tournament in advance.

The registration deadline for this tournament is February 24th, 2023 at 11:59 PM. We will email payment information to all teams after you register. Payment will be due at the door. We will be able to accommodate cash as well as PayPal or Venmo. If you need to pay via check, please include so as a note when registering and we will contact you via email. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate W-9s or Purchase orders.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected], or message myself (Avinash Aravind) or Vinay Menon on Discord. We look forward to seeing you at the third annual Eagles’ Academic Spring Tournament!

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to staff issues, we have lowered our field cap to 18 teams, which means the field is now filled. However, teams are more than welcome to register to the waitlist, and if many teams do so we will do our best to accommodate them and return to our original 24-team plan. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change, and we thank you for your interest in EAST III.

Is it possible to open up the field to 24 again? Princeton A and B would really like to compete, and we were going to do it months ago, but our club advisor has been absent, and our club leader is busy with college apps.
