Livingston Summer Duos Novice Tournament (7/9/22)

Post by robby_redford »

I'm very pleased to announce the first ever Livingston Duos Novice Tournament, co-directed by myself and Sophia Wu!

Date and Time

The tournament will be held on July 9, 2022 on Zoom from 9 AM to 6 PM. Players will get a 1 hour lunch break in between 1 and 2 PM.

Eligibility

The tournament is open only to novice players, so here are the eligibility rules:

- People who have played in more than 3 regular season quizbowl tournaments, HS and MS alike, are not allowed to compete.
- Anyone who made it to HSNCT or MSNCT playoffs is not allowed to compete.
- Anyone who has netted 25 ppg or higher in a regular season tournament is not allowed to compete.

If you're not eligible, we encourage you to spread the word to friends who are - who knows, maybe you'll be able to get them to become players!

Format
Teams will be placed into preliminary brackets before being re-seeded for playoffs. Teams are guaranteed 10 rounds.

Games will be run on CERES, a novice-level set. Each game will follow 20/20 format with no clock. We will be using 5/5/5 rules for timing, meaning 5 seconds will be allotted after each tossup is read to buzz, 5 seconds are allotted after each buzz to begin answering, and 5 seconds are allotted for teams to confer on each bonus part.

Live standings will be posted throughout the tournament.

Teams

Teams can either be solo or duo, and do not need to be school affiliated. All teams must choose a (family friendly i beg of you) pseudonym to compete under. Only people 13 and older are allowed to solo - 12 and younger students must find a partner.

The field is capped at 12 teams, though it can be expanded if enough people are interested in playing or willing to staff.

Awards

The top individual scorer as well as the winning team will receive 20 dollar Amazon gift cards.

Fees

This tournament is meant to be an easily accessible way to introduce novices and youngins to Quizbowl - as such, this tournament will not be run for a profit.
Fees will be 10 dollars per team to cover the cost of the packet set.

Registration

Fill out this form to register for the tournament. The registration deadline is July 2, 2022. If the tournament does not have 10 teams registered by then it will be rescheduled. If you are interested in staffing email [email protected] or shoot fortunato#8037 a discord DM.

Field
The field will be posted in this doc.

That's all! If you have further questions contact me through my email or discord or post your questions in this thread!

UPDATE:

Eligibility rules have changed. Upperclassmen (11th and 12 grade) can compete as long as they fulfill the other requirements (low ppg and little experience)
