Illinois Open Online Mirror - 6/25/22

Post by Mike Bentley »

I'll be organizing a Zoom mirror of Illinois Open on Saturday, June 25th. Tournament will start at 10 AM EDT. This is an open set so expect things to go pretty late.

An informal sign-up sheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

To officially register, email me at [email protected].

Initial field cap is 6 teams. Will expand if enough interest in staff / teams.

Fee will be $100 per team. Staffers will be paid $50 for their time.

I believe there are 13 packets in the set. Since almost none of the in-person mirrors played these later packets, I'll be adjusting some of the playoff round -> packet mappings so that at least some of these packets get played in competition.

I'm looking for a team for this, and would like to get on a team before the field fills up.

Reminder this is happening next weekend. We have 7 teams signed up and enough free agents for an 8th team. We probably won't expand beyond 8 teams unless there's a lot of interest between now and Sunday when I'll at least tentatively lock down the field.

By the way, we could still use a couple more staffers. Email me at [email protected] if you're available. Thanks!

There's one open spot for a free agent on Kurtis's team tomorrow. If you're interested, let me know.

Rahul's team cleared the field to win the tournament. Stats are here: https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/7556/.

There's a discussion forum you can join that will have a link to the packets (although I think this is the last mirror so they will eventually be posted publicly).

Huge shoutout to the staff of this tournament. They managed to get us through 10 rounds of really hard questions in under 9 hours including a lunch break, not an easy feat when you're playing online.

I couldn't agree more. This tournament felt very smooth both in terms of total time and round to round timing.

Yeah, I agree--good, well-run tournament.

Shout out to McDonald's, as I played better after eating takeout.
