Ocean Science Packet

Post by eygotem »

Hello everyone,

I have written a 16/16 packet of oceanography-related questions in the vein of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. It's essentially my vision of what ocean bowl would be if the tossups were pyramidal, with no multiple choice. In addition, tossups are power-marked, bonuses are one part only, and tossups and bonuses are paired randomly (not by subject).

I plan to read this packet on the MainQB Discord if there is enough interest, but I don't currently have a time in mind. Please let me know if you are interested, and when would be the best time to read it.

This is kind of short notice, but would anyone be interested in an in-person reading during ACF Nationals? It's one packet (not a full side event) and I think it should be fine Covid-wise.

Update: this did happen, with quite a few people. We didn't exactly keep score but I'm pretty sure Dan won. In the meantime, I plan to read the packet on the main Discord tonight (Tuesday) at 8 pm central, so see the rest of you all then!

Bump. Depending on the attendance, I might split the reading into multiple groups to avoid massive buzzer races (as the questions aren't that long).

Thank you to everyone who showed up, and congrats to Kevin Wang's team for winning! (Kevin put up 185 points)

If there is interest, I can do another mainQB reading later this week; otherwise I will post it on the archive sometime soon-ish.
