LUKA II [CALISTO 2] (4/9/22, Online)

Post by arolypoly »

Plano West Quiz Bowl’s officers, members, and alumni are excited to announce the second iteration of “Late-year Ultimate Knowledge Assessments”, a.k.a LUKA II!

LUKA II will be a regional mirror of CALISTO 2, an HS-regs level set similar in difficulty to NAQT’s Invitational Series (IS) sets. More details about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=109&t=25155.

Venue:
We will host LUKA II online, on Discord, on April 9th, 2022. Rounds will start at 10 AM Eastern/9 AM Central.

Eligibility:
LUKA II is a HS-CLOSED mirror, meaning only teams consisting of players from the same school may compete. Chimera teams will not be allowed. Furthermore, LUKA II is regionally restricted to the American South. Only teams from Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana may participate. Any valid exception requests (e.g. inability to play the set at any other mirror) will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Registration:
Teams and staffers can register here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing. There is an $80 registration fee, and payment can be sent via Venmo or Zelle to [email protected].

There is a soft field cap of 24 teams, and schools are encouraged to register multiple teams of up to 6 players.

Staff:
If you're interested in staffing, please leave your contact information in the second tab of the spreadsheet. Teams providing staffers will receive a $20 discount per staffer, and staffers not affiliated with teams will be paid $20.

Format & Rules:
The format for this tournament will consist of 5 preliminary rounds followed by a lunch break, after which teams will be split into championship and consolation brackets for afternoon playoff rounds.
Twenty tossup-bonus cycles will be played in each match with one tiebreaker tossup if needed. We will be using the ACF ruleset https://acf-quizbowl.com/gameplay-rules/, but with the inclusion of powers (15 points).
Players will have 5 seconds after a tossup to buzz, 5 seconds after a buzz to answer, and 8 seconds after a bonus is read to direct an answer (as stated in the ACF rules).

ALL players must use video and show BOTH hands in the frame at all times. Set-ups that are acceptable at NAQT nationals as outlined by their integrity policy, which can be found here: https://www.naqt.com/nationals/online-integrity/, are preferred. Players are also encouraged to remain unmuted during tossups as long as there is no significant background noise. The tournament directors reserve the right to remove any player on the grounds of suspicion at any time.

Misconduct and Cheating:
All players, spectators, and coaches must adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct, linked here: http://www.pace-nsc.org/nsc-code-of-conduct/. Players, spectators, and coaches should report misconduct either directly to staff or via the misconduct form found at the bottom of the PACE Code of Conduct. Every instance of misconduct will be dealt with seriously by tournament staff. Similarly, the staff will investigate every allegation of cheating and reserves the right to report confirmed cheaters to local and national Quizbowl organizations.

Feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions or concerns you may have. See you in April!
