MOYAII (04/23/22 @ Online)

Post by Arjun_G »

Hello everyone! I am excited to announce MOYAII, the second iteration of the Mira-Loma Online Yearly Academic Invitational! The tournament will be held online on April 23rd, 2022. I, Arjun Gonuguntla, will be serving as the tournament director.

The tournament will take place on Discord. Players will buzz using Buzzin.live. Both category and individual stats will be available.

While being situated in Norcal, this tournament is open to any team from the West Coast. This includes teams from Socal, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada. Geographic restrictions may be lifted in order to fill up the field closer to the day of the tournament. The initial field cap will be set to 18 teams, and can expand if sufficient interest is shown.

Register for MOYAII at this link: https://forms.gle/ssD1xwWfKPWWoUnE8

Question Set
MOYAII will be using NEWT, a regular-plus difficulty level high school set. More info on the set and its distribution can be found at this link. It is not advisable for novice teams to play this set.

Payment Information

The overall fee for MOYAII will be $75 per team. A 25$ discount will be offered to any team that provides a moderator, with a limit of one per team. Payments can be made via Venmo, Paypal, Zelle, or a check. More info on payments will be included in an email closer to the tournament date. If none of these methods work for you, please contact us.

We will be utilizing a similar policy to the NCQBA on drops. Drops from the field are allowed right up to 6 PM Pacific the day before the tournament. If your team must drop from the tournament after 6 PM Pacific on Friday, April 22nd, you will be liable for 100% of the registration fee. The same goes for if your team does not show up without informing us.

Staffing
We are not looking for any more moderators and scorekeepers for this tournament.

Misconduct and Cheating
We expect that all players, staffers, and coaches in this tournament adhere to PACE's Code of Conduct. Harassment and bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. We will take action against any perpetrators of misconduct.

Additionally, given the online nature of this tournament, we will require that ALL players have cameras and show at least ONE hand at ALL times. A camera setup showing both hands is greatly appreciated, but not necessary. We reserve the right to remove any players that we suspect of cheating during the tournament. Players are also encouraged to play while unmuted if they don't have much background noise.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to either post in this thread or send an email to [email protected]. As mentioned previously, if sending an email, please include "MOYAII 4/23" in the subject line.

Thank you! We look forward to seeing you there.

A couple of updates:

1) This tournament has switched sets and now is running on NEWT, a regular plus difficulty set, due to California Cup's use of Prison Bowl. The difficulty is similar to Prison Bowl, so once again, it is advisable that novice teams not play this tournament.

2) More importantly, MOYAII is no longer region restricted. Teams from anywhere across the country can now sign up to play on the 23rd, not just from the West Coast. Use the form on the original post to register!

The original post has been updated to reflect these changes. Thank you all and we hope to see you there!

Just a reminder that registration for MOYAII will close Thursday at 11:59 P.M. Pacific time. Make sure to get your teams in by then, as there's still space left in the field! As for teams currently signed up, information emails will be sent out soon regarding the tournament.
