DUOS II Announcement

Post by Nurostep »

Hello everyone!

I am excited to announce that we will be creating a second iteration of last year's DUOS (Don't Underestimate Our Set), which will be available for mirrors this year!

Set Information
The set will be high school regular+ difficulty this year, a bit harder than last year (on which we received much feedback saying it was a bit undershot). The distribution is mACF, like last year’s, but is slightly modified from what it was last year. The distribution is as follows:

4/4 History (1/1 American, 1/1 European, 1/1 World, 1/1 Other)
4/4 Science (1/1 Biology, 1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Physics, 1/1 Other)
4/4 Literature (1/1 American, 1/1 British, 1/1 European, 1/1 World/Other)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 Visual, 1/1 Auditory, 1/1 Other)
3/3 RMPSS (1/1 Religion, 1/1 Myth, 0.5/0.5 Philosophy, 0.5/0.5 Social Science)
2/2 Other (1/1 Geography/General Knowledge, 0.5/0.5 Pop Culture, 0.5/0.5 Current Events)

Returning from last year's iteration will be:

Head Editors: Aarya Singh and Sinecio Morales
History Editor: Rohan Kher
Science Editors: Aarya Singh and Shiva Tegulla
Literature Editor: Rohan Ganeshan
Fine Arts Editor: Sinecio Morales
Belief Editors: Kaushik Gollamudi and Sinecio Morales
Thought Editor: Shiva Tegulla
Geography Editor: Rohan Ganeshan
Writers: Alberta Grinston, Shardul Parthasarathy, Zainab Memon

Call for Writers
We are having an open call for writers until 11:59 Central time, Friday, February 18th, and may continue a rolling call for writers afterward depending on necessity. If there turns out to be substantial interest, we may not be able to accept everyone who applies to write. To apply, please submit one (1) tossup and bonus each to sinecio928 (at) gmail (dot) com, or aaryasingh (at) gmail (dot) com.
----------
Requirements:
both questions should be high school regular+ difficulty or near it
use 10 point Times New Roman font with 0.5 inch margins
Tossups should be 650-750 characters (not including pronunciation guides), bonuses should be 7-9 lines (not including answerlines)
Your questions can be in any category relevant to the set distribution
You do not need to powermark your questions
----------
We want to see your ability to write within the correct length constraints and near to the set difficulty. Don't stress about writing the perfect questions, writing is a learning process and you will get better at it the more you do it.

Extra Information
We will still run a mirror of the set for duos at some point just like last year for anyone interested in playing that. We will announce the date on that after we begin setting up mirrors. We're very excited to see all of your writing submissions and can't wait to create another great set for all who wish to play!!
