RESCHEDULED: Allderdice Invitational [4/02/2022, Pittsburgh, PA, IS-208]

Post by tgildengers »

Allderdice Quiz Bowl is excited to announce the return of the Allderdice Invitational tournament in its fifth occurence! The tournament will be held in person at Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday, April 2nd.

Format, Eligibility, and Questions
The tournament will consist of 5 preliminary rounds, a lunch break (approximately 1 hour), 5 playoff rounds, and a final round. Check-in runs from 7:45am to 8:30am. Our opening meeting for staffers and players will start at 8:30am, and the first round will begin promptly at 9:00am. The last round is projected to end by 5pm. This tournament is open to high school seniors or younger. All teams must consist of players from the same school. This tournament will use both tossups and bonuses from NAQT's IS-208. The field is capped at 18 teams.

Payment Information
The base price for this tournament is $60/team.
-$15 per affiliated staffer (see the Staffers section)
-$10 per functioning lock-out buzzer system

Schools can pay for the tournament in any of the following ways:
-check made out to Allderdice Quiz Bowl and given to the tournament directors on site.
-cash paid to the tournament directors on site
We will require teams to pay before the tournament begins. Teams who fail to pay for their registration before the tournament begins will not be allowed to play.

Registration
Register for this tournament using one of the registration portal on NAQT at https://www.naqt.com/registration/field ... t_id=13097
Rosters will be collected from registered schools a week before the tournament. Please respond promptly to all requests for additional information or rosters.

Staffers
We are accepting outside staffing help, but there will be a very limited number of spots open for outside staffers. Our priority will be to take coaches and other experienced adults from registered schools as staffers before anyone else, and staffing spots are first come first serve. Experienced staffers should have 2+ tournaments of staffing experience or other equivalent. All staffers will be required to bring some electronic device from which they can read electronic files and/or access an online spreadsheet.

Location and Food
The tournament will be held at Allderdice High School, located at 2409 Shady Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Lunch will be provided at no cost to staffers, but teams will also be able to purchase lunch items like pizza. Teams are welcome to bring their own snacks, but we suggest visiting Forbes Ave nearby to purchase a full lunch if desired. We will provide teams with a list of recommendations for places to eat lunch, which will last approximately an hour while rebracketing for playoffs.

Announcements
Registered teams will receive announcements about the tournament primarily through an email list, especially as we get closer to the tournament and rosters are determined, but updates will also be posted in replies to this forums post.

COVID-19 Protocols
All attendees of the Allderdice Invitational are required to be masked at all times while indoors, except when actively eating or drinking. While eating or drinking, social distancing protocol must be followed. All attendees of the tournament (including players, staffers, parents, and chaperones) are strongly encouraged to provide proof of full vaccination or proof of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of arrival during the check-in process. If you do not cooperate with the mask wearing policy, your team will be asked to leave. All Allderdice Invitational staffers will be fully vaccinated.
Misconduct
Allderdice Invitational expects all players and staffers to act respectfully towards each other during the tournament, including on lunch breaks. However, if there are any instances of harassment (verbal, physical, etc) we ask that you bring them up to the tournament director and we will ask the offending party to leave, if desired. You can also complete the misconduct reporting form instead if that is more comfortable. https://tinyurl.com/qbmisconduct
Contact Information
The tournament directing team will consist of myself, and our two coaches Ms. Mazzocco and Mr. Mielke. You can reach us at [email protected]

I'd like to credit the members of Choate QB and the Girls Quizbowl Server for helping me write this post, as it's my first time directing a tournament.

EDIT 12/26/21: Removed duplicate registration information, please only register using the NAQT system. Apologies for any confusion.
EDIT 1/4/22: As of right now, there are rising COVID-19 cases in the Pittsburgh Public Schools District and several schools have already gone online. Furthermore, district policy states that we cannot mandate COVID-19 vaccines at the tournament. The combination of these factors means that our tournament organization team (myself, as well as coaches Ms. Mazzocco and Mr. Mielke) no longer believe we can hold the Allderdice Invitational as safely as we wish to at this time. Therefore, the tournament is postponed and will hopefully be rescheduled for some time in April.
EDIT 2/13/2022: We've rescheduled Allderdice Invitational for Saturday, April 2nd, 2022! If you've contacted us by email about signing up, please confirm your registration through NAQT. More updates to follow in the next week or so, and we hope to see you there!
