Announcing: The MONTHS TOURNAMENT

Post by theMoMA »

Have you ever wondered what month is the best month? I certainly have. And now, with the help of the esteemed members of #qbbasketsball, we find out. Announcing: the MONTHS TOURNAMENT.

A hsquizbowl forums/Facebook interactive event.

The MONTHS TOURNAMENT is a "bracketed voting experience" in which quizbowl will determine, once and for all, which month is the best month. Tournament organizers have generated and seeded four brackets in categories of "secular," "ancient," "religious," and "modern reform" calendars. The first rounds of voting will involve "play-ins" to determine which months make the final field of 256.

The MONTHS TOURNAMENT. 256 months. Four brackets. One winner. Voting begins tonight!

CURRENT VOTING
"Reform 3" quadrant first round (closes 4/3)
"Ancient 4" quadrant first round (closes 4/4)
"Religious 2" quadrant first round (closes 4/5)

CONCLUDED VOTING
"Modern reform" play-in (closed 3/26)
"Secular" play-in (closed 3/27)
"Ancient" play-in (closed 3/28)
"Religious" play-in (closed 3/29)

"Secular 1" quadrant first round (closed 4/2)

The current round, and all future rounds, will use "copy/paste voting" (see music brackets for examples). The organizers of the MONTHS TOURNAMENT have determined that, in order to encourage the health of the hsqb forums by increasing interest among new posters, votes from hsqb accounts with fewer than 50 total posts, or any hsqb accounts registered in 2020, will count for 1.5 for all future rounds of voting.

To encourage discussion and interesting posting, the organizers of the MONTHS TOURNAMENT have also determined that, starting with this round, all votes accompanied by interesting discussion or justification will receive an additional 0.5 vote credit.

The regular bracket voting for the MONTHS TOURNAMENT will begin on Monday! In the meantime, please vote in the "religious" play-in, which is open for another day.

The MONTHS TOURNAMENT will return on Monday, April 6 (4/6) with new bracket "quadrants"; until then, please vote in the four (4) "quadrants" (one from each corner of the bracket) that are live. Voting in those will conclude on consecutive days starting today and ending Sunday, as described in the first (1st) post.

Due to "covid doldrums and general lethargy," the MONTHS TOURNAMENT will be taking a one-week (1-week) hiatus and make its triumphant return on April 13. The organizers encourage everyone to take this time to engage with the hsquizbowl forum's other venerable "bracketed voting experience" involving music from the 1970s.
