The Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Technologies in Edison, NJ is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the fifth annual New Jersey Middle School State Championship on Saturday, February 29th, 2020! Due to last year's events, we will be setting a snow date for Saturday, March 7th, 2020 (teams will be notified if this date is used).

We will be setting a soft field cap of 24 teams, and registration can be found here. Both new and experienced teams are welcome to attend.

We will be using a National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) middle school set (specifically MS-34) along with standard NAQT rules (as detailed here). Computational math questions will be read.

Teams will be limited to 6 people at maximum, and schools planning to bring more than 6 students must register multiple teams. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams are also allowed to have fewer than 4 people.

Logistics:
Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, and the opening meeting will start at 9:00 AM. We will explain the rules and regulations for new Quiz Bowl teams. The tournament will be held at MCA SMET (100 Technology Drive, Edison, NJ 08837). The date is set for 2/29/20 with a snow date of 3/7/20.

Food:
Breakfast will be provided. Pizza will also be available to order for lunch (more information on that as we get closer to the tournament date), or students may bring lunch with them. We will also be selling various snacks and drinks as a fundraiser.

Fees and Discounts:
The registration fee is currently set at $80 for your first team and $70 for each additional team. There will be a $10 buzzer discount (so -$10 per fully-functional buzzer system you bring). Additionally, to incentivize teams to register early, we will be providing a $5 discount per team if you register, provide rosters, and pay before February.

Payment Information:
Registration fees can be paid by cash or check. Checks should be made payable to “Middlesex County Academy” with your school’s name and registration fee in the memo line. You may pay on the day of the tournament or mail in advance. Anything sent via mail should be addressed to:

Nationals Qualification:
The top 15% of the teams will qualify for NAQT's Middle School National Championship Tournament (MSNCT) to be held in Rosemont, Illinois in May 2020. More information about MSNCT can be found here.
