Thomas Jefferson Middle School Tournament (TJMST) - 1/25/20

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is pleased to announce the annual Thomas Jefferson Middle School Tournament (TJMST) on January 25th, 2020.

QUESTION SET:
The tournament will using MS-31, a question set produced by NAQT.

TJMST's current field cap is 24. Please sign up by January 18th. Teams will be limited to at most 6 players, so schools planning to bring more than 6 students should register another team. During the rounds, up to 4 students are permitted to play at any given time, and up to 2 students can sub out at halftime. Teams may have fewer than 4 people.

LOGISTICS:
Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, and the opening meeting will start at 9:15 AM. We will explain the basic rules and regulations, and unlike previous years, basic breakfast foods will be NOT be provided. Pizza will be available for order in the morning. The tournament will be held at TJHSST (6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312). Our tournament is set for January 25th if weather permits, but if not, we will reschedule for a later date.

FEES:
Baseline fees per team:
$70 for schools that regularly participate in pyramidal quizbowl
$45 for schools that are new to pyramidal quizbowl

DISCOUNTS:
-$5 per each fully functional buzzer set, defined as having at least 8 working buzzers
-$10 per each competent staffer
-$10 per 100 miles traveled one way

Minimum registration fees:
$30 per team

Registration fees can be paid through cash or by check. Checks should be made payable to TJHSST Quizbowl with your school’s name and Registration Fee in the memo line. While payment the day of the tournament is preferable, mailing it in advance will work as well. Anything sent via mail should be addressed to TJHSST Quizbowl c/o John Laffey at 6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA, 22312.

TJMST's field cap has just been expanded to 30. We may expand the field to 36 depending on interest and staffer availability. If you have already signed up, please confirm rosters in NAQT by the 21st.

Due to logistical issues, we must postpone TJMST to February 15th. To compensate for the sudden reschedule, we plan to add a ten dollar discount for teams that still come to TJMST, on top of any other discounts already applied. This discount will be per individual team.
