All,
Cedar Shoals HS will be hosting the 2015 Greg Trandel Memorial Bulldog Brawl at Cedar Shoals on Saturday, October 24, 2015*, in Athens, GA. We will be capping the field at 24 teams and maybe 26 if we get enough readers. Questions being used are NAQT IS 150 and the top 15% of the field will qualifying for the HSNCT to be held in Dallas.
Greg Trandel was an Economics professor at UGA. For most of the 2000s he was the College Bowl sponsor at UGA as well as an active member of the Athens area quizbowl and trivia communities. He read mostly at Cedar Shoals events but took vested interest in the many teams that came to our events. We named this event in his honor as a tribute to his friendship and support of academics and academic competition.
Please note this will be the only HSNCT qualifying event we will host from now on as Jag Bowl will become a mirror/Nationals prep event using GSAC.
Fees are $70 for one team, $130 for two, $180 for three and $220 for four teams (limit four per school). If you have more than four teams, and if we need teams to fill a division, we will allow those teams to enter at $40 each.
A $5 discount will be given for every worker/reader a team brings (limit two. If you happen to have more who are willing, we may be able to work out a deal).
A $10 discount off the total bill will be given for teams coming from outside the State of Georgia
Minimum fee for one team: $60
Teams may consist of up to five (5) players. Subs can only take place between rounds. Players cannot switch between multiple teams (in other words, your "B" team members cannot switch to "A" after a few rounds.
Round format will be 18/18 rounds in the prelims followed by full 20/20 round in the playoffs with three part bounceback bonuses. Powers will be in play. Top sixteen teams will advance to a SEPO and then a Final Four Round Robin to determine the overall winner. The winning team will own for one year the travelling Bulldog trophy, which is currently residing in Flowery Branch.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks and we looking forward to hosting you in Athens
The registration form and the email blast will come most likely over Labor Day weekend.
*Starting in 2015, we are now going to hold this event in October instead of the usual end of January date.
