NAQT Virginia Tournament - April 16 Charlottesville

Post by yangsta »

The University of Virginia will be hosting the NAQT Virginia tournament this year in sunny Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday, April 16.

Registration is now open! Please mail/e-mail in the registration form as soon as possible (and by April 7 to receive the early registration discount).

All high schools in Virginia (public, magnet, private) are encouraged to participate; there will be championships for small schools (less than 750 student in 10-12 grades) and first-time NAQT schools. We will try our best to accomodate as many teams as we can.

The format will consist of untimed rounds of twenty toss-ups with non-related bonuses using NAQT question set IS-51. Each team is guaranteed at least seven rounds of play, but most teams will be playing additional playoff games. The teams that perform best will qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship in Chicago, IL (June 3-5).

A free breakfast will be provided during check-in (between 9:00 and 9:30), after which opening ceremonies will take place in Wilson Hall 402 (adjacent to Cabell Hall). For lunch, you may eat on-Grounds, at one of the nearby “Cornerâ€

Thanks to the UVA team for changing the date of the NAQT Virginia tournament so that it doesn't conflict with Spotswood's ACT II. I appreciate their willingness to move the date at a time when the tournament calendar is filling up.

I have been told by one of our (Freeman's) coaches, that we have registered. Is there a more complete list available? Thank you.

Quick Results

Post by yangsta »

In a grueling but (hopefully) enjoyable 14 rounds of competition today, Thomas Jefferson A defeated Princess Anne in the final after Princess Anne fought back from the loser's bracket (due to losing to TJ A earlier) in the double elimination playoffs.

Other teams that finished in the top 8:
TJ B
Maggie Walker A
Maggie Walker B
TJ C
Freeman A
Robinson

Clover Hill A defeated Maggie Walker D to win the lower double elimination playoffs and 9th place.

Individual and team results from the preliminary round robin rounds are available at:

Unfortunately, the date of the tournament conflicted with some Central Virginia It's Academic tapings. I believe that's the reason both Spotswood and Cville were not in attendance.
