Ubu Roi @ Brown, October 11, 2008

Post by Dennis »

I'd like to tentatively announce Brown University's high school tournament, Ubu Roi, which will be held Saturday, October 11th, 2008. Pending room reservations, it will be held in Wilson Hall, which should hold up to around 30 teams.

We'll likely begin registration at 8:00 AM and aim to start games by 9:00 AM. The questions will be written as a collaboration between the Universities of Minnesota, Illinois, and Brown; there will be 12 packets of 20/20 toss ups/bonuses at the regular high school difficulty level.

Fee schedule (subject to minor changes):

First team: $80
Second team: $70
Third team and onward: $60
Buzzer discount: -$10/system
Staff discount: -$5/helper (moderator or scorekeeper).
Travel discount: -$10/200 miles traveled
Minimum fee: $45

If you would like to register, indicate interest, or ask questions, please feel free to contact me, Dennis Jang, at dennis _ jang AT brown DOT edu. Please check this post periodically for updates and additional details.

We look forward to seeing you here in the fall!

If this tourney is still on, Kellenberg would like to bring 1, maybe 2 teams, and 3 buzzers.

So does that mean that the field is currently Kellenberg and Hunter?

We're currently still on, but we haven't found much of a field yet. If your team is interested, please post here or email me at dennis _ jang AT brown DOT edu.

Is this tournament using an original house-written set? I noticed that Illinois and Minnesota, who apparently are collaborators for the set, are using HSPAQ set for their fall tournaments. If that's not the case, there might be a problem since Hunter and Kellenberg both played on the set already.

The decision to move to the HSAPQ set was made recently. If this is indeed the case (concerning Hunter and Kellenberg), we might have a problem, although it seems as if we're not going to be holding this tournament due to lack of interest. Sorry for all the problems this might have caused.

I just wanted to officially cancel our site for this tournament. We'll hopefully be holding something in the spring.
