See AWehrman's quote above. I would be surprised if Northwestern keeps their date.

I recommended Nov 1 as the best possible date at the time. Andrew told me that the club is scattered across the country until right before school starts, so they probably wouldn't make a decision until then.

IHSSBCA has decided that Team Illinois will continue this year as it has in the past, though Nick Pitz has decided to step down as Coach.

BGSO: They are planning it but are being very close-mouthed re the logistics. I'm sure Mr. Reinstein will post something as soon as he finds out. As said above, we are still planning on having Team Illinois this year, and the Ultima (your coach will be getting an invite around Sepember 1) by association.

I can confirm that it is wrong. There are discussions about NAQT State that are still getting resolved, with Fenton being a possible host and New Trier being an outside possibility. Earlybird will be in Champaign/Urbana.

Thanks to an amendment proposed by Maine South several years ago that was approved, there is no limitation on practicing.

The only current limitation is 18 dates in season and 1 date out of season playing 5-on-5 matches. The season starts roughly right around now and runs until the end of the IHSA State Tournament in March.

Okay, let's get this thread started! Who's going to Ultima? To Early Bird? Northwerstern (once they set a date?)? Any other fall tournaments? The sovereign state of Loyola Academy will be at all three.

As of right now, I hope our Pre-Winter Break Schedule consists of:
10/4 EFT
10/18 Ultima
10/25 Earlybird
11/8 Wheaton North Kickoff
11/15 Rockford Auburn Harvard Mirror
11/22 Scobol Solo
12/6 Rock Valley CC NAQT
12/13 Loyola Frosh/Soph
Of course, we'll be at the 12/20 New Trier Varsity, but we're not planning on fielding a team.
These dates will not be set in stone for a few more weeks.

Aegis is only doing Kickoffs and Masonics this year. They are cutting back other things, since one of the founders is joining the real world and two of the founders are becoming more active on the college circuit. I am hopeful that NTV will be written by a smattering of NT alums and current players.

As far as I know, our pre-break schedule matches New Trier's. Hopefully, we get lots of matches in with them as we did last year.

What I really want to know is what tournaments Carbondale is attending. Out of most people's general top 4 (in alphabetical order; Auburn, Carbondale, Loyola, New Trier) Carbondale is the only team that won't probably go to all the same tournaments.

For those of you who don't realize how far Scholastic Bowl come

question from the 06-07 MSL championship match

bonus four parts: category miscellaneous "U" words

1. Whether you play fast pitch or slow pitch softball this is the kind of pitch you use
2. Not pretty
3. A fork and spoon are an example of these things normally used in the kitchen
4. A Policeman who people don't know is a policeman

Greetings. I wish to start a league consisting of the many campuses of the Noble Network of Charter Schools. I hope to start our league next year and have a scrimmage between schools by the end of this year. I am searching for a question provider. Since our school population consists of mostly freshmen and sophomores, I would like questions with that level of accessibility. So, I would like to hear suggestions and feedback from anyone about the question provider they use for league competition. I would also consider purchasing question sets from F/S tournaments (Loyola/Fremd, etc.) if they are written in-house.

So, specifically, this goes to David Reinstein, Tom Egan, David Riley, or anyone else involved in running a F/S tournament. Please tell me about the pros and cons of your league's respective question providers.

Contact me at [email protected]. Thank you.

Good Frosh/Soph questions are hard to find. If you don't mind updating questions that are a few years old but that nobody in your league would have seen, you might ask Egan for the questions he used for his tournaments a few years ago. Also, Aegis Questions wrote Conference Frosh/Soph questions last year, though they are not doing it this year. Additionally, Loyola is beginning to write their Frosh/Soph questions in house this year and Rockford Auburn has been doing it the last few years.

Hey, Colby,
This wouldn't be a good long term solution by any means, but I'm working on writing a pyrmaidal style middle school tournament to be held at NU in February. Perhaps you could use my set for your tournament at the end of this year to introduce those schools to good quizbowl at a low level of difficulty.

Just in case you missed it...

Everyone on the Illinolis forum should read....and digest!....the comments under "Your Philosophy of Quiz Bowl" under the miscellaneeos Quiz Bowl forum. I think it is an eloquent and articulate testimony as to why a handful of people (that hopefully is growing) who care about good quiz bowl in Illinois have made great strides in the last ten years, though we still have a long way to go.

Look at what we've accomplished: increasingly better questions, better quality and availability of tournaments, and a better state series. We probably have one of the longest rule books and accompanying interpretations in the country, but many of those rules have been made to change the outdated behavior rules that existed previously. WHEN they existed previously; some of us remember the many "fiefdoms" that existed across the state in terms of rules and regs, we've become much more standardized.

And while we can point with pride to younger people such as Carlo Angiuli and Matt Laird, we need more of you, as many of the pioneers who carried Illinois quiz bowl kicking and screaming into the 21st century are nearing or have reached retirement age. Onward!!!

2008-09 New Trier
2008-09 Rockford Auburn
2006-07 New Trier
2005-06 Winnebago
and a part of 2006-07 Maine South.

I competed in a tournament in Illinois once, and will be there. Does that add anything to the drama?
Also, like, not enough is mentioned of htis but Kudos to the high school teams coming to a college tournament. That is such an awesome thing for you guys to be doing.

I didn't compete in more than one high school event in Illinois though. I figured that was the implication in a high school thread.
