Announcement: UGA Fall Tournament 9/20

The University of Georgia Quizbowl Team will be hosting a tournament on September 20th, 2008 consisting wholly of house written questions. As in the past, the tournament will take place on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, and the questions will be modified ACF format, consisting of twenty toss-ups and three-part bonuses. The tournament is open to both JV and Varsity teams; however, there will be a single set of questions used for all games. Athens is less than a one hour drive from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport with good traffic (cross your fingers), and there is plenty of nice, affordable lodging within walking distance of the campus. There is no cap on the number of teams at the present moment, but with space a possible issue, reserve your spot now by emailing [email protected]. We hope to see you then!

Is this date set in stone? Ezell-Harding is hosting its annual tournament on the same day, and that tournament typically draws many of the top teams in the Southeast (as does UGA).

That Saturday is also the date of the Gwinnett County Championship. You will definitely lose a large coterie of schools with that choice. The Gwinnett schools will attend the Gwinnett tournament rather than the UGA one if this date stays.

Nothing confirmed yet, but it's looking like it might be Oct. 25th instead. Working within the confines of the UGA football schedule, we were originally concerned about some other conflicts on that date but those didn't turn out so unless there's another conflict (let us know if there is) Oct 25th ought to work. We're also looking at our NAQT tournament to be on Dec. 6th which is the same weekend we had last year. Okon or someone else will post when we've got the dates confirmed, but tentatively this is what our fall schedule is shaping up to be.
