NYC Area Summer Practice?

Post by catsasslippers »

Taking Ian Eppler's lead--would anyone in the NYC area be interested in having weekly practices at my house in Brooklyn (or somewhere else if others wanted to host)? My house is easily accesible from most subway lines and the LIRR, as well as the typical highway routes. This could be a great way to strengthen the NY/NJ circuit and keep us all sharp over the vacation. Anyone up for it?

I'd be up for this when I'm in town, which is most of the summer. Even if I haven't been to non-peninsular Brooklyn in like 4 years . . .

I'd be up for it, but getting all the way to Brooklyn would be a *****.

There's a definite NY bias in this thread. I recommend us NJer's practice at a refinery on the turnpike. There's also a much easier way to practice. It's called IRC

1. IRC never works for me.
2. I second the refinery idea.

Aaron, for me, there's no substitute for in-person practice with buzzers and a moderator. The D.C.ers, Minnesotans, and Virginians might be on to something here.

I approve of your ideas and would like to subscribe to your public rally.

Also, I'll attempt to spread the word as best I can to teams that may not read the board.

Hey, the train system in this neck of the woods is pretty great. I don't think coming from NJ would be that much of a stretch. If you have a more central location available, though, let me (us?) know . . .

I'd be interested, but I don't know how my parents would feel about me going to some stranger's house in Brooklyn? Any shot of a public library or similar? Does the New York public library have rooms available for group use free of charge?

PATH to WTC to wherever the hell Nina's is is going to take, minimum, 45 minutes (Leaving from Newark).

You can read packets on the PATH. Take the PATh to 14th. 20-25 minutes on the F train from there to my house. Really not that bad.
Ian you could always lie--that would be my route. Or if it makes your mother feel more comfortable and you're a better person than I am (fair assumption) I could have my mother talk to yours. I promise to kick you all out of my house at a reasonable hour anyway.

Pro. But again, there is the whole "my parents don't want me going to some internet stranger's house" to factor in.

Even without their permission, I could probably make it to at least couple of weekend daytime ones (NJ Transit 175 + subway = good).

She is not an internet stranger. This is not an internet forum as such. It is an extension of a real-life activity, featuring real-life people, not possible pedophiles.

This sounds like a good idea. When details have been finalized as to times and days, count me in.

I'm really not a creepy stranger. Besides I am 18. I live at home.
I propose Sunday practices. How does everyone feel about that?

Sunday or Saturday is good, since Weekdays I have an internship to deal with.

What would be the times of day for this?

Yeah Sunday works for me too, except that I won't be able to attend when I'm off on weekend tournaments. But then I'll be playing QB anyway.

A fair crop of open/masters tourneys have traditionally been held during the summer.

We're hosting two tournaments this weekend at Maryland, which should be no more than a 3-4 hour drive from New Jersey. See the announcements for Sun 'n Fun and ASS in the college section.

I meant something closer...as in a tournament occuring in the NYC area.

Could everyone stop griping about 3-4 hour drives? Of the 215+ games my team played last year, less than 1/4 were played within a 3 hour drive from our school.

Yeah but in the summer where I would mainly play in a tournament for fun I don't feel like traveling 4 hours. It's not the same as traveling 4 hours with your school for an official high school tournament.

Maybe if you post enough in this thread about it, a tournament will magically appear in your bathroom.

I think Nina should be posting her plans relatively soon - she'd mentioned next weeked as a possibility, though of course I don't speak for her.

You don't? News to me.

I think next weekend would be a good idea. Noonish anyone?
