Two-tournament weekend at VCU August 16 & 17?

Post by Matt Weiner »

Hey, I'm thinking of putting together some open events at VCU in August. The Saturday event would be a Chicago Open-level tournament written mostly by me, the Sunday would be a mirror of the Irvine novice if the people in charge of that event are willing to set up such a thing. Who would be interested in playing this?

Note date change in topic.

I'd be very interested, and I think some of the other Stuyvesantians might be as well (presence in the country depending). BTW, first Titanomachy, and now this? Are you a packet-writing machine, Matt?

I believe Matt was making the novice tournament open to everyone and potentially splitting things into divisions if there was enough interest.

I'd be interested in playing in the open tournament with a team and I'd do my best to convince some of my teammates to accompany me and play in the novice tournament (I could help read or whatever, or play, I'm not sure whether I'd be eligible or not).

When does class and orientation start at VCU? http://www.vcu.edu/academiccalendars/ That seems to cut it a bit close.

(Of course I wind up being "on call" for freshman orientations and first-month-of-class...)

I'll try to show up, too.

My parents will probably not let me drive to VCU, considering that I've never driven solo to Virginia before and they (rightly) will have a low expectation for how much I'll sleep at this thing. Anyone coming to this thing who plans to take a route that goes through (or reasonably near) Pittsburgh?

I will show up for whatever doesn't conflict with work, which I may not be able to predict very far in advance if I end up working at the Apple Store, so this post probably isn't too helpful, but whatever.

Hey, any company that replaces a bunch of keys on my keyboard for free, and that doesn't bat an eye when I explain that they got knocked off when I dropped a tart pan onto my laptop, is fine in my book.
