Minnesota PACE Spring Qualifier, 3/15 at the U of Minnesota
Minnesota PACE Spring Qualifier, 3/15 at the U of Minnesota
This is a preliminary announcement for Minnesota's version of the PACE Spring Qualifier, to be held on March 15. The tournament will be held at Blegen Hall, located at 269 19th Avenue S, Minneapolis 55455, on the beautiful West Bank of the University of Minnesota Campus.
Rounds will be conducted using modified PACE rules. There will be three division of gameplay. The first segment consists of 8-tossup with related bonuses that have 20 available points each. The second segment contains six tossups, and teams that answer it correctly will be able to select the category (such as American History, European literature, etc.) of a one-part bonus worth 15 points. The third segment is an 8-tossup "stretch round," with unrelated bonuses with 30 available points. Players who answer the tossup before the "For 10 points" will earn a 20-point "power." As per PACE rules, all bonuses that are not correctly answered by the first team will be available as a "bounce back" to the second team.
Teams are guaranteed seven games; this may chance upwardly, but it will not be less than seven.
The packets will be written as a PACE collaboration between the University of Minnesota, Brown, and Matt Weiner, and this packetset will be used at various other Spring Qualifier tournaments throughout the country. Obviously, this means that there will be restrictions on talking about specific questions until all such tournaments have concluded.
Here's the fee table (subject to minor changes):
$70: Base Fee
-$10: Each additional team
-$10: Each working buzzer system
-$15: Out of state teams
Please contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions at all about the tournament logistics, distribution, lodging suggestions, or anything else. To register for the tournament, please contact Rita Otto at ottox131 [at] umn [period] edu, and CC me ([email protected]) so I can provide field updates.
I hope to see a great turnout for what promises to be an awesome tournament in mid-March!
Stay tuned for periodic field updates, as well as more detailed logistics, such as start time, meeting room, etc.
Thanks,
Andrew Hart

Re: Minnesota PACE Spring Qualifier, 3/15 at the U of Minnesota
This tournament is in just over two weeks, and I know of several interested teams. We have only one confirmed reservation so far though, so please get your registrations in soon so we know how many staffers we need to find! Send them to Rita Otto at ottox131 ---at--- umn ---dot--- edu
Also, this tournament will potentially feature a mirror of the Wallace Stevens Lit Singles tournament from the Weekend of Quizbowl festivities. If you'd like to play in that, please email me at [email protected] so I can gauge if we have enough interest to run that tournament. We may push it back to the 4/5 Chitin Classic, Gioia/Mukherjee permissions permitting.

Field update:
Chaska (2)
Eden Prairie (3)
Hopkins
Holmen (3)
Roosevelt
Roseville
South
Wayzata
I have another half-dozen or so teams who have expressed strong interest, but haven't gotten back to me yet. I would expect 15-20 teams in the final field.
Lit Singles will NOT be held at this event; we will attempt to do that after Chitin Classic.

Mainly the mean PPB and PPG per round. I am a bit of a stat freak.sam.peterson wrote: Just out of curiosity, what would you glean from a round report?

Round Report is an option in SQBS. Just check off the option when you generate the web report and it will be one of the pages automatically..theMoMA wrote:I'll see if I can get Robert to compile a round report.cdcarter wrote:Any chance of getting round report?theMoMA wrote:More complete results.
