2008 Oklahoma NAQT state qualifier (3/8/08)

Post by orangecrayon »

The Oklahoma State University College Bowl team is pleased to announce that it will host the 2008 Oklahoma NAQT State championship on March 8 at the Stillwater campus.

This tournament is not affiliated with OSSAA, does not have a qualifying tournament (i.e. sectionals, regionals, area) and is open to all Oklahoma high school teams. The top large and small school teams will receive an automatic bid to the 2008 NAQT High School National Championships in Chicago.

Round-robin preliminary matches will begin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with check-in beginning at 9. Elimination rounds will be played at the end of the day. Matches will not be timed and will use the tossup-bonus format with two 10-question halves per game.
The entry fee is $60 for the first team from each school and $50 for each additional team. The registration fee includes a copy of the question set, IS-74, for each school. Teams will receive a $15 discount for each working buzzer system brought. In addition, a $10 discount per school will be assessed if registration is received by Jan. 15, 2008. When registering, please indicate the number of teams you will be bringing, approximate school size (OSSAA classification is sufficient), and whether you will be bringing a buzzer system. Registration information will be accepted via e-mail or telephone until 11:55 p.m. on March 3, 2008. "Official" entry forms are available upon request if your school district requires one for bookeeping/paperwork purposes.

Checks may be made payable to OSU College Bowl. Driving directions will be sent at the end of the registration period, along with hotel listings if needed.

Hope to see you in Stillwater!

Thank you,

(Although I doubt too many Oklahoma high school teams read the message boards...)

Due to another on-campus event on March 8, schools planning on reserving rooms in Stillwater the night before the Oklahoma NAQT state qualifier are strongly encouraged to book accommodations ASAP. All teams are advised to allow plenty of extra time for parking Saturday morning.

Hey, Lenzy! Do you think that you will need anyone from TU to help out with the tournament? I know, for sure, that Jessica and I will be able to moderate.

Thanks.

Just got my internet access back. Was about to e-mail you and ask for help. Anyone from TU who wants to come and help out is more than welcome.

Thanks, Angelo!

Just to clarify also, if any schools are interested, the top teams would also be eligible to request participation at the PACE NSC. Of course, are Oklahoma teams interested in going to another qb nationals like PACE? We haven't had a good showing from that state over the last 10 years.

There's one school I know of (Ponca City) that's already qualified and is interested in going, but they're trying to work out some funding and scheduling kinks. Not too many high school teams from Oklahoma read the boards or even know about all the qb nationals options. Will be happy to name-drop PACE next weekend, though.
