Right Triangle Open (3/8/08) @ Raleigh Charter (Raleigh, NC)

Post by rchschem »

Wayyy out in front. We're just claiming the date. The format will change this year as well to a three-part round instead of four. We'll be rolling out revisions to last year's tournament software to make the thing run better.

Thanks for letting the date out so early. We will be sure to put it on our calendar. Last year your tournament was well run and the questions were VERY good. We are looking foreward to returning.

I wanted to announce that our tournament software now has the ability to send text messages announcing match pairings, match results, and other special information. This supports most major providers.

The field as of today includes 20 teams from...

Greensboro Day
Weddington
Rocky Mount
TJ Classical
Andrews
Cary Academy
Harnett Central
Southern Lee
Russell (KY)
Louisburg HS
Early College of Guilford
Onslow
North Duplin
Robinson
Hickory Ridge
Bassett (VA)

(updated 2/8)

We look forward to a snowballing field.

Eric

Tournament website:

The stats link here will be as live as we can make it. Certainly stats will be refreshed automatically as each round is completed.

Field Update (3/6/08):

School Teams
Greensboro Day 1
Rocky Mount 2
TJ Classical 2
Andrews 2
Cary Academy 1
Harnett Central 1
Southern Lee 1
Russell (KY) 1
Louisburg HS 1
Onslow 1
North Duplin 1
Robinson 3
Caldwell Academy 1
Lee County 1
Hoggard 2
Arendell Parrott 1
Northwood 2
Jordan Matthews 1
St. Mary's 1
Chapel Hill 2
Porter Ridge 1

That's 29--hopefully we can even the field by Saturday and keep everyone from having byes. We'll definitely have a 16 team playoff field, but we won't run an official consolation track this year. We tried that last year and interest wasn't strong enough.

I've received very few photos or rosters, which means Saturday's registration will be tres busy. Please try to arrive before 8 so that we can get everyone taken care of. If most teams show up later, like 8:30-ish, we'll have a backlog before round 1, which will delay our start time. There's a Krispy Kreme right down the street, so if you get registered early you can leave for a bit. We can text you to warn you when we'll actually start round 1.

If only James Island could go, but we have our biggest tournament of the year so far, Quest, at Trident Technical College, so you will have a new champion this year.

Good field, basically covers all the top teams in NC except for the few teams out west.

In case anyone was wondering, Raleigh Charter is updating stats live throughout the day on their website at http://www.raleighcharterhs.org/ncata/rto/ .

As you can see from the stats, Russell (KY) won the 5th RTO this afternoon. Robinson, Greensboro Day, and a very good Hoggard team rounded out the top 4. We'd like to see more of them at NC tournaments.

I would like to thank Raleigh Charter for putting on what is one of the top tournaments we attend. It was well run (as usual), and the questions were top quality. I would encourage other teams to attend next year. It is well worth the trip.

Thanks for the nice words. Our chief problem was the hour delay before round one, and this was almost all due to difficulties in taking and loading pictures. We hope to clear this up next year by adding a page to the website where coaches can enter their own rosters ahead of time (and you'll be able to make changes up until the first match starts, pretty much).

We had two software problems during round one, both of which amounted to communication errors between me and the author (my fault), and then the tournament ran pretty darn well. though I question the climate control--it seemed to me that it was hot in the rooms but cold in the hallways. I can't fix this, however. Our building's HVAC system was not designed to handle a school. That's what you get when you lease, unfortunately.

Thanks to all who attended. I hope the questions weren't too hard.

We had a great time. RTO is a tournament I look forward to every year. Some of the trash questions were WAY out of left field, though I didn't have any trouble with the academic stuff.

Speaking of trash, that "rick rolling" question was GOLD.
