RESULTS: Gulf Coast Academic Inv. Tournament (02/02/08)

The Gulf Coast Academic Invitiational Tournament was held at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida on Saturday, February 2, 2008.

The field consisted of 14 teams from 11 different schools in Florida and Alabama. The tournament was run in the PACE format and used PACE-style questions.

RESULTS: In the finals, Hoover High School (Hoover, AL) avenged an earlier loss to Pensacola High School "A" (Pensacola, FL) to take home the championship. For winning first place, Hoover received a team trophy, gold medallions for each player, and $1000 in prize money. For finishing second, Pensacola High received a team trophy, silver medallions for each player, and $500 in prize money.

The other tournament semifinalists were Choctawhatchee High School (Ft. Walton Beach, FL) and Tate High School "A" (Gonzalez, FL). Both of those teams received team trophies.

Other teams in attendance included Washington High School (Pensacola, FL), Northview High School (Bratt, FL), Ft. Walton Beach High School (Ft. Walton Beach, FL), OWC Collegiate High School (Niceville, FL), Rocky Bayou Christian Academy (Niceville, FL), Rickards High School (Tallahassee, FL), and Bayside Academy (Daphne, AL).

Sponsors for the GCAIT included Thompson-Briggs Developers, Gulf Power Company, and Whitney Bank.

Wow... cash which is almost as good as money! :)

The top 2 also get automatic bids to the NSC, with a strong encouragement to the other two semifinalists to apply for wildcard bids.

Erg. This tournament was so frustrating without a full team.

Though, we may have fielded the most hardcore colored team there.

Actually though, I enjoyed the tournament questions for the most part. Very academic, which was appreciated. The lit was pretty easy, which was really really appreciated haha.
