Any news on CWRU Buzzerpalooza?

Post by Solondude »

I was wondering whether CWRU was having their tournament this year? We haven't heard any news regarding announcements or anything of the sort....

CWRU seems to stealth their tournaments. I don't recall much in the way of postings on these message boards about them, but I assume they still pull in quite a crowd. Probably just by contacting coaches directly?

Oh not anymore we don't. They used to be fairly popular, but the management and quality in the past few years has alienated most of our support. It's really pretty sad.

Like I told you Steven, stage a coup, and the quizbowl cabal here in NE Ohio (myself, Bossick, Sharp, Bindis, Saxton, etc) will help you run Great Lakes, even if we have to go to NAQT for the question set in the event the team doesn't write their own or mirror another tournament.

There is a question set available if you wanted to do Great Lakes. Ask Matt.

Heck, there's a question set available if you wanted to do Buzzerpalooza. Ask me in a little over a week (sorry--I have other things taking my time between now and then).

Thanks for the offer...problem is that in a week the intended date for the tournament will have passed. The tournament was scheduled for this Saturday (Feb 2nd), but our president seems to have gone into hibernation, so no one knows what the hell is going on anymore.

Yes... Bykowski has a set for Buzzerpalooza, while Weiner will complete a set appropriate for GLRAC.

Stage a benevolent coup. :) Do a double-tournament weekend. Solon apparently has made that concept work (albeit in a limited sense). I admit room control will look at you kinda funny, but heck... why not?

Don't make me worry about you guys... you all are in the rotation to help me write HSCS this year.

I'm also curious. I just started Ph.D. study at Case and was under the impression that the tournament would be this Saturday.

It definately is not going down this Saturday and probably won't occur any time this year. Great Lakes is still a definate possibility, but it depends on how soon the officers can get their acts together, as the president just stepped down and we are going to need some time to figure things out.

That's understandable. We had similar issues when I was at UL Lafayette.

Are meetings still at 6pm on Thursdays, or has one not been scheduled yet?

If there's anyway I can help out long distance-wise, let me know.

They usually are held at that time, but unfortunately we have not had a meeting since November. I'm pushing to get meetings started again, and I would have instituted them myself a long time ago had I had the contact information of all the members. If you drop me an e-mail (mine is [email protected]), then I can contact you when we start them up again. It would be nice to have some new faces show up.

If Great Lakes does indeed use Matt's set, like it is looking like they might... what set is Solon using for their PACE tournament?

Wait... you're now at Case???!!! Cool!

Steve, yes, if you could get the rooms reserved for GLRAC, ... all you have to do is get word out on trophies.

Also you can still do Buzzerpalooza on that Sunday and make it a double-dip weekend if you can get the rooms.

I also think that doubling up the tourneys would be cool.

I'll admit too, that would be pretty bad-ass to do a two day thing like Solon, but I think I'll have my hands full getting just one tournament off the ground. It definately would be pretty cool though....maybe I'll toy around with the idea next year.

From what I hear through the grapevine and from the man himself, Solon is trying to secure the question set to run Buzzerpalooza on April 5 (the weekend before CWRU Great Lakes). More information to come once it is released.
