Announcement: Minnesota area Titanomachy mirror 11/3

Post by theMoMA »

Chaska High School and a junta of Minnesota quizbowl players are pleased to announce our mirror of Titanomachy, which will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2007. The difficulty will be similar to that of Penn Bowl 2007.

Since ACF Fall North is on Sunday and because the 27th date didn't work for Chaska, this tournament will be hosted on the third. We don't want teams who have signed up for other ACF Fall sites to come to this tournament unless they're planning to play at the site they signed up for. But teams playing ACF Fall at Minnesota are encouraged to play this as a warm-up. We also welcome any players not going to a Fall tournament who want to play.

This tournament is also open to high school teams.

The fee schedule, the same as that of Maryland's, is:

+$100 – Base Fee for 1st team
+$90 – Base Fee for 2nd team
+$80 – Base Fee for all subsequent teams
-$5 – Working buzzer system per school
-$10 – Competent moderator per school (we are in need of moderators)
-$10 – Travel discount per team coming from over 200 miles one-way (as judged by Google Maps)

Minimum Fee Per Team: $65

If you're interested in registering a team, please email me at [email protected].

Chaska High School is located at 545 Pioneer Trail in Chaska, Minnesota. It's approximately 20 miles southwest of the U of M campus, so you can easily get there from your hotel for Fall.

Details on registration, etc. will be forthcoming.

EP's probably sending one and possibly sending two teams. Once there's actual confirmation we'll register.

Field:

Minnesota
Drake
Eden Prairie
Chaska
Wayzata/Alex Friedman

Carleton dropped, and Wayzata and Alex are going to join forces. Minnesota may still have another team.

The tournament was played as a double round robin between five teams. The champion was Basileus School for Excellence, Brendan Byrne playing solo. He took down Aphra Behnd It Like Beckham (Rob Carson and Gautam Kandlikar of the University of Minnesota) on the last question of a one-game final, 220-185, after those two teams split their two preliminary round games. The top scorer was Brendan, at 104.38 PPG.

Full stats can be found here.

This doesn't include stats for the final, so here they are for your viewing pleasure:

Basileus School for Excellence, 220 points, 13.00 PPB
Byrne: 10-2, 90 points

Aphra Behnd It Like Beckham: 185 points, 11.67 PPB
Carson: 6-1, 55 points
Gautam 3-1, 25 points

Thanks to everyone for showing up! It was a fun tournament, and it was especially nice to see high schoolers acquit themselves well to a fairly difficult set. I'm glad we could make it work on relatively short notice.
