Brown University High School Invitational (12/1/2007)

Post by Dennis »

Hi,

I’m pleased to announce that this year, we will be hosting the Brown University High School Invitational on Saturday, December 1, 2007. We will be using IS-68, and, as per NAQT rules, this will be a chance for teams to qualify for the 2008 HSNCT, more information about which can be found on the NAQT website.

The fee schedule is as follows:

First team: $80
Second team: $70
Third team and onward: $60
Buzzer discount: -$5/system
Staff discount: -$10/helper (moderator or scorekeeper).
Travel discount: -$10/200 miles traveled
Base fee: $45

The tournament is currently planned to take place in Wilson Hall, which will accommodate around 30 teams. If you would like to register, please email me, Dennis Jang, or Jerry Vinokurov at dennis _ jang @ brown.edu or jerry _ v @ brown.edu, respectively, and please let us know how many teams, buzzers, and staffers you intend to bring.

We look forward to seeing you here at Brown later this year.

Just bumping this back up. We have plenty of space and plan to send paper mail invitations in the near future, but emailing me works as well. Some teams have already registered, and I'll start posting field updates when more teams sign up.

Another bump. Several teams have responded, but there are still plenty of spaces open. I've sent another wave of emails, and I'll start posting field updates soon.

Field?

Do you folks have a finalized field? Either way, we're definitely looking forward to making the trip down.

This is the field so far:

Half Hollow Hills West (3 teams, 3 buzzers)
Simsbury (2 teams)
Burlington (1, 3 buzzers, 2 staffers)
Northampton (1-2 teams)
St. Andrew's Episcopal (1 teams)
Suffield Academy (1 teams)
Newtown High (1 teams)
Moses Brown (0-1 teams)
East Hampton (0-1 teams)

There is still space, although it would be better if I could know sooner than later so that I can start finalizing the schedule. If you're interested, please email me at dennis _ jang AT brown DOT edu.

10 teams came out to Brown on this rather cold day and played 13 rounds (with a bye). The final records:

1. Half Hollow Hills West A (12-1)
2. St. Andrew's (10-3)
3. Simsbury A (8-5)
4. Burlington A (8-5)
5. Half Hollow Hills West B (7-6)
6. Northampton A (7-6)
7. Northampton B (5-8)
8. Newtown (3-10)
9. Simsbury B (3-10)
10. Half Hollow Hills West C (2-11)

Thanks to all the teams that came here and played, and thanks to the Burlington staffers who helped this tournament run as quickly as it did. Full stats to follow shortly.

Thanks to Dennis, Jerry and company for a really fun tournament. Things ran really smoothly, everybody got a lot of matches in and our kids had a ton of fun doing it. It would have been nice to see a few more teams, but there's also something to be said for a small, friendly tournament and this one definitely qualified. We'll be looking forward to coming back next year.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I thought people might want to know that results from Brown's high school tournament may be found here.

Thanks again to all the teams that came out.
