Chicago Open Predictions

Post by canaanbananarama »

Make predictions in this thread. Mine are below:

First: Weiner/Sorice/Potru/Ullsperger
Jerry’s lazy decision to let Ray Luo write another misguided India theme packet gives Sudheer a 17/0 round and the team a much needed win against Kemezis et al.

Second: Westbrook/Luo/Lafer/Vinokurov
Manage to beat Weiner et al., but an eleven neg game to non-participants Seth Kendall and Chris Borglum costs them the tournament. Ray Luo carries the team and holds everybody together long enough to get second, despite his teammates’ protests that the questions are too hard and that the team should mutiny for Red Roof Inn pay-per-view pornography.

Third: Cohn/Kemezis/Ferrari/Tourdot
Remarkably manages third despite in-tournament trauma when Ed Cohn is mugged during the middle of a bonus on the Nernst Equation and the mugger steals 500 points from them, thus causing their team to lose to the Missouri team, -15 to -10.

Fourth: Kwartler/Meigs/Gauthier/Keller
Gauthier and Keller do all the work, while the other two are way too engrossed in comparing Vik Vaz’ girlfriend to legendary girlfriends of past, present, and future

Fifth: Selene Koo/Ahmad/Thad Novak
Nothing really that much to say here

Sixth: Rom/Hartman/Arthur
Jonathan Magin finds love in Rom’s sparkling cocoa eyes and Chris Ray negs six times to hand this team the upset win over Maryland. Rom can handle the rest of the field beneath.

Seventh: Maryland
They’re better than the two other teams

Eighth: Hart/Passner/Carson/Roper
Hey, it’s like half of the CBI National champions and Dan Passner? That’ll get you like a game.

Ninth: Missouri
The use of the English language as the primary language at Chicago Open will certainly be a barrier, but a Seth Teitler geology tossup will show the children that there are other kinds of rocks than buzzer rocks, so it will be a great learning experience for the Missourians.

Edit: Singular v. plural

So wrong! It is I who will neg eleven times against Seth Kendall and Chris Borglum. And various other teams.

All due respect to Bruce and Tim's abilities and ROM's awesome personality, but I've yet to lose to ROM in any situation in the past and I plan on keeping that the case.

Either I'm right and will neg a lot, or I'm wrong, which leads to negging, so I'll probably neg a lot. Either way, negging. Q.E.D.

I'm so confused, I'm in an existential truth crisis. Me contending that any question is too hard? Ludicrous. Ed Cohn being inexplicably mugged in broad daylight? Inevitable.

How am I to know what to believe in this vexing Meigsian matrix of illusions?

After coming out on the losing end of a run-in between my right hand and a large table in my lab yesterday, I thought I might have to go on the physically unable to perform list and be replaced by Paul's little brother or something, but the range of motion seems to be coming back today... On a different note, I nominate our team as the dark horse for the negging title, especially if Eric and Charles just start buzzing in with random legendary girlfriends.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I'm fairly confident that, due to the extensive ferric oxidation that has enveloped my brain over the past year and a half, I couldn't even go 17/0 on a middle school packet playing against empty chairs. I'm looking for a solid 7 PPG and some coattails to ride to victory.

Incidentally, speaking of potential victory, I believe our best chance of winning lies in the possibility that Chicago Open has in fact transformed into Science Monstrosity. This would be excellent because 1) we'll probably be a pretty solid science team and 2) Andrew Ullsperger has edited that tournament, which would allow him to club Matt Lafer into submission.

And really, isn't that what we all want out of life?
