Stingray Award Nominees

Post by BuzzerZen »

OK, I took the nominations from the original thread, added some of my own, and dropped and consolidated some of the categories. For the things I'm too lazy to link to, check the previous thread, use the search feature, or just cry.

Thread of the Year
Consolidated College Bowl results thread
Challenge for Jason Mueller
The Christmas name change thread
The Spiderman 3 thread
Technology tournament [tx dwight]

Post of the year
grapesmoker: "Go away, Jason."
Matt Weiner: "Borrow some bleach from a neighbor and drink it."
BuzzerZen: "LITERACY MOMENT"

Avatar of the Year
DumbJacques: "Olmec is my Homeboy"
Somebody: "Flamewars aren't the only festival of light"

AHAN Jr. Names
"Steve Irwin getting killed by a stingray"
"Jason Mueller fan fiction"
"AHAN Jr."
"Discontinued Soda Forum" [tx 10^6waves]
"Pat refused my offer of a hug"
All the names are eligible, really, but I can't remember many. Fred?

Poster of the Year
leftsaidfred
grapesmoker
Matt Weiner
Dumb Jacques
Dolemite
ImmaculateDeception [late nominee]

The Pointless Self-Referential Trainwreck Award goes to the first Stingray Award thread's discussion about pointlessness.

Send your ballots via e-mail to me at ejs07 at sign hampshire period edu or just post below or something. The results will be put up eventually. Like in a week. Winners get a wall of ham.

For AHAN Jr. names, I've always been partial to the ever popular "Discontinued Soda Fourm"... although my ballot may not reflect that.

I'll need everyone else's help here, as all I really remember are the nominated ones plus my changing the name to "Pat refused my offer of a hug." I'm not responsible for every single name change, though.

I'm pretty sure there were a few that played off the 'X being Y by a Z' set-up. Which reminds me, it's about time for a new name.

My votes:

Thread of the Year: Spiderman 3

Poster of the Year: Matt Weiner (because his vitriol cannot be matched)

Post of the Year: Literacy Moment (I had the pleasure of actually SEEING the addressee read this for the first time. It was priceless. Had you all seen it, the voting would be unanimous).

Avatar: Olmec is my homeboy

That's all I care enough about to vote on.

Thread of the Year: Technology tournament, barely beating out the Spiderman 3 nonsense. I know this isn't on the nominee list but I have to vote for it anyway because it talks about robots playing quizbowl and that is far better than superheroes playing quizbowl (although I suppose both were involved in that post about Superman vs. TJ A 2005).

Post of the Year: LITERACY MOMENT. If only because it was not already part of a ridiculous flamewar.

Avatar of the Year: Olmec. Although that "BANNED" one would beat it if the site people ever used it again.

AHAN Jr. Name: "Pat Refused my Offer of a Group Hug" because honestly who would do such a thing to someone who has been mercilessly tormented by squirrels sent by the TJ robot factory?

Poster of the Year: grapesmoker, if only for claiming that "Charles Meigs is one of the best people in quizbowl, ever" and shamelessly increasing his post count by single-handedly keeping the soccer thread afloat.

I don't think it's the best post of the year, but certainly honorble mention must go out to Avery being a douche.

It's one of those things where you probably had to be there to get the full effect. But, I'll try.

Imagine a cherub-faced 15-year old with long, curly blonde hair. However, he dresses in all black, usually sporting a Slipknot shirt.

He read the LITERACY MOMENT post. Suddenly, he looked as though he had just seen a puppy get mutilated. In a stuttering, sounding like he's about to cry voice, he says:

"But... but... I KNEW that... I ... just... I mean... I wasn't thinking... OH GOD! OH GOD! They all think I'm stupid."

It was hilarious.

Of course, the Olmec in his avatar is from Legends of the Hidden Temple, that amazing early-90's Nickelodeon game show.

We are talking about Olmec from noted Nickelodeon game show "Legends of the Hidden Temple", right?

Because he's , although he's not my homeboy.

And therefore:

Thread of the Year: Consolidated College Bowl Results Thread.

Post of the Year: While your description of the self-confidence shattering of a 15 year old Slipknot-wearing high school student is hilarious, I still have to go with "Go away, Jason." Chalk it up to Mueller-bashing never, ever, getting old.

Avatar: The  one: Olmec.

AHAN Jr. Names: I changed my mind. My ballot will reflect my love for discussion of discontinued soda.

Poster of the Year: grapesmoker, for reasons stated above. It was, simply, beautiful.

EDITED: For grammar

Riley, you know we post here. We see you everyday. Did you think we were going to ignore the fact that you do, in fact, wear Slipknot shirts 3 out of 5 days of the week? We constantly have debates with him on the merit of Slipknot as a musical group.
