Ham Sandwich Scandal

Post by xXWinter_FoXXx »

Okay, I saw this on Fox News the other day, and now that I'm trying to look for it on their website, I can't find anything about it. I can only find it on unreliable sites and such.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... lunch.html

Is this a joke or what? Some of these quotes can't be real...
I'm counting on you, Quiz Bowl community! Don't fail me now.

I don't want to believe that it is real, but i saw some true stuff on the site, so it may be true.

If so, may *insert deity here* have mercy on our souls.

I especially like where the anti-hate crime guy says "No child, Muslim or normal, should have to endure touching a ham sandwich."

This indicates that Muslim children are not normal.

This HAS to be fake...

If this is true, I think I speak for the entire ham-loving community when I call for excommunication from the Church of Oscar Mayer. To bring such taint to the name of one of the greatest foods on this planet is a complete and utter travesty.

The link you provided seems to be based on an actual incident with some fun quotes added in.

A more reliable description is here.
A 14-year-old Somali boy, whose mother asked that his name not be published, said he was eating lunch with four other Somali students on April 11. He noticed many others in the cafeteria "standing up, looking at us."

One boy came near, began laughing and threw a bag on the table while other students laughed and said, 'Good job.'"

"We didn't know what was in this bag," the boy said. "One of my friends reached inside it. It was a big ham steak. There were five of us at the table, all Somali. It was intended for us."
Given the fact that this followed a pig's head being thrown into a mosque in the same town, I would agree that the school should treat this as a hate crime worthy of a suspension and some counseling. I keep Kosher, and I would feel threatened if a group of Christians threw a pork sandwich at me. That doesn't mean that the legal system should lock the perpetrators up and throw away the key, but what they did is very wrong.

It just depends on what really happened, so I'm not going to decide until more comes out about this. However, on the first site it is under the "Humor" section, so I don't know what that means.

I think the quote that "I could feel allah [sic] condemning me to burn for eternity for being within a 6.2 meter radius of ham" would be a huge tip-off.

you know, not everyone reads the whole article, or throughly examines every site they go to. For example, when governemnt teachers tell students to go to "www.whitehouse.com" they dont usually get a chance to see the whole page.

In the event there are people running around who don't know about the whitehouse site referenced here, no one under 18 should go there to investigate.

The parody was based on a real event, and it has made the situation worse. Read more here.

Since this now seems to be semi-real. I would like to say that Hate Crimes are stupid. I have been made fun of countless times for being a Christian and in none of those cases have they been treated as "Hate Crimes"... Yeah, by the way that parady note wasn't there before. :p

I'm reading the comments at the bottom and I want to scream at some of them.

It's really unfortunate that they made this parody and that it was broadcasted on national TV as fact, because the whole thing is troubling.

He's a repressed white Christian from Alabama... I know this because he's one of my players. I love him, but he makes me want to pull my hair out when he starts talking about his "beliefs" and "grievances."

He supported Roy More, but dresses gothic and listens to death metal. He's a walking contradiction.

Wait, wait, let me see if I'm getting this straight: in order for there to be equity under the law, everyone has to be the same? Stalin called, he wants your bacon back.

LOL. Perhaps I should add the disclaimer that Winter Fox in no way speaks for the entirety of Brindlee Mountain's Quiz Bowl Team. In fact, I would say that most of his beliefs are completely opposite that of everyone else on the team. He gets made fun of... often... and for good reason.

If anyone wants to retaliate, he will be the blonde kid dressed in black on Brindlee Mountain B at Nationals. Feel free to supply him with ham sandwiches. And, if you do, could you throw some mustard and mayo on a couple of them. I might want to eat them because the food at the Crowne Plaza costs out the butt.

In part, quoted for re-emphasis, but Lee, the food costs are the reason we're renting a car in Chicago for that weekend.
