National Poll Time

Post by AKKOLADE »

It's time to cast your vote in this year's national high school quizbowl poll.

To vote, e-mail me your top 25 teams. Please include, at the minimum, the team's state. I would like it if you included their city as well. You can vote for B-teams; please indicate their B-teamed-ness in your ballot.

Please utilize this website's results area and state quizbowl sites to look into areas you are not familiar with. Many active areas have discussion threads on this site as well; look at those too.

I reserve the right to reject ballots if they appear biased. I will e-mail you for justification of your ballot before I do this, but still, if you have five or more teams from a region that doesn't have that many top quality teams, I'll question your ballot.

Also, use this thread for discussion purposes. If you have a question about a team(s) you haven't had the opportunity to see, ask here! I'm certain someone will be able and very willing to address your questions.

I'll let voting go for at least two weeks. If more time is needed, I will extend the deadline.

My e-mail address is fredmorlan SPAM gmail SPAM com . Include in the subject "poll" so my Gmail will filter it and star it for my attention

Have there been any NAQT tourneys in Illinois, if so can someone post a link to results?

How does Shady Side's and Cistercian's team this year compare to last year's?

Two things:

One: When submitting your ballots, please rank the teams from one to twenty-five. Also, include your hsquizbowl.org screen name/handle/whatever term you want to use. Thanks!

Two: If you're going to vote for a team from West Virginia, I think it should be Parkersburg Catholic. From what I have seen they have a good supporting cast built around an outstanding player, which makes them the class of the state. Shawn Weaver can correct me if I'm incorrect.

The only NAQT Tournament in Illinois has been Northwestern. That tournament had a small field with some of Illinois' best teams there and some not. A small number of conferences use NAQT questions, but the scores are not posted and even if they were NAQT modifies the questions into Illinois format for those conferences. NAQT State is March 24, and it will have a smaller and stronger field than Northwestern.

There are a number of Illinois tournaments with quality questions, but I know it is pretty much impossible to compare scores across tournaments using different formats and question writers.

Has anyone heard anything from Shady Side? I don't think they've played in a tournament that's been posted on this board yet.

I know Shady Side did not attend CMU's NAQT tournament this spring.

The only thing I know was that they finished first and second at Pitt's tournament sometime in the late fall. Then again, there were only three or four schools (totaling about 12 teams) in attendance, so that doesn't exactly say much.

We have 13 ballots so far! Keep them coming, with at least another week of voting to come. If demand calls for it, I will gladly allow for more time to vote.

Balloting has now closed. I am in the process of counting votes; it may take a couple of days to be finalized, but I will get it the results up by Friday. I hope sooner, but I'll see what I can do.

We received a total of 18 ballots. I'm still working on formating the results so they look pretty, but here's some side notes to look over until that's released:

66 teams received at least one vote
Eight teams appeared on all ballots
Two teams received first place votes
Teams from 22 states, the District of Columbia and Canada received votes
17 states and the District of Columbia made the top 25.
Only one ballot was disqualified, and that was because it only included 14 teams and a reference to Jason Mueller.

Ballots will not be revealed by myself, just the overall results. I hope to have these formatted by Friday.

Hey, there was no rule that said you *had* to come up with 25 teams. Meh, I'll do it right next time.
