PARFAIT 2: October 14, 2006

Princeton College Bowl is pleased to announce that PARFAIT 2 will be held Saturday, October 14th on the lovely Princeton campus. PARFAIT is an MACF academic tournament open to all teams affiliated with a college and other teams at my (almost certainly granted) discretion.

This year's PARFAIT, unlike last year's, will be entirely house-written. Hence, there will be no packet submission expected of any of the teams. The distribution will be roughly the same as last year's, and on a per-packet basis is intended to be:

20% Literature
20% History
20% Science
4% Religion
4% Mythology
4% Philosophy
8% Fine Arts
8% Social Sciences
4% Geography
4% Trash
4% Our Choice

This is of course rough and there will be some packet-to-packet variation, but this is what we're aiming for. Difficulty will be approximately the level of last year's edition, which is to say, harder than ACF Fall, but not much harder.

As there is no packet submission, we've slightly raised the fees for PARFAIT 2:

$120 base fee
$100 per additional team
-$10 per buzzer system
$80 minimum per team

As before, travel discounts are available for teams planning to travel a significant distance to attend. If you fit that qualification, contact me and we'll come to an agreement.

I'll be sending out details next Wednesday, but as a quick note, the tournament is being held in the Frist Campus Center, and should have the following format: two 8-team brackets will play a round robin, after which there will be a crossover bracket for the top and bottom halves. After that, a final of 1-2 games will be played, unless one team is 2 games clear of the rest of the field. See you all on the 14th!

Brown defeated VCU in a final and won the tournament. Rutgers, VCU, and UVA were all tied for second place; VCU got the spot in the finals by virtue of best PPG. The final standings were:

1. Brown
2. VCU
3. UVA
4. Rutgers

The Caltech mirror had 10 teams gather from throughout California. Stanford A led by Eric Smith romped through the round robin undefeated (8-0, due to USC's midtournament departure), with UCLA taking second and UCI A taking third. Eric Smith led the individual scoring, along with Dwight Wynne from UCLA in second place and Jerry from Irvine A in third. Standings will be posted shortly. Overall, the tournament ran smoothly and we'd like to thank everyone who came out and helped make it a success.

The packets were mostly assembled by hand, and then the order of questions within individual packets was done by a program.

Hopefully Dan should be able to post final results soon.

I was missing a single scoresheet from Round 11, the game between Delaware and Columbia, so that one round is missing, but stats are otherwise complete.

Actually you are missing Delaware v GW in round 11. The score was Delaware 100, GW 80.

You are also missing the Columbia v Villanova match.

The Brioche bracket collectively went something like 21-11 in the playoff phase.
