Matador Bullfight [Lightning Run Format - 3/21/25]

I'm excited to announce the Matador Bullfight that will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025. The tournament will be run by me, Aatreyo Bhattacharyya (Mira Loma High School). It will begin at 3:30 PM Pacific to best accommodate all time zones.

The tournament will be run on the Satellite: Planetfall Jr set which is of High School regular minus or novice difficulty. Due to the unique style of this tournament, only players who typically would be restricted from playing novice tournaments should play. People playing this mirror must not be eligible for other Satellite mirrors or must not be able to play a novice tournament in good faith. I expect players to use discretion to avoid taking business from standard format mirrors.

Event Format:

There will be 20 tossups and bonuses per round. Games will be timed with 7.5-minute halves for each round, bonuses will go dead after 2 seconds, and tossups will go dead IMMEDIATELY after the question is finished being read. The scoring rules are 20-point powers, 10-point gets, and -5 negs.

Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets, followed by re-seeding for playoffs. All teams will be guaranteed ten rounds. Teams are expected to stay and play the entire event, even if not in contention for the championship.

Registration:
Duos are intended to be just that, two people, not more, not less. If you don't have a duos partner, you can sign up on the free agent list, where you either reach out to other free agents or be automatically matched. All players must be in either middle school or high school (Class of 2025 or younger).

I have set up a team formation sheet. Once you have set who you're playing with, email me to confirm your registration.

Please ensure you register before the day of the tournament. The deadline for dropping out of the field is 5 days prior to the event (Sunday, March 16, 2025), after which you will be responsible for the full amount due.

There will be a flat fee of $50 per duo (or $25 per free agent). This can be paid by Venmo or PayPal. I'll reply with payment options and methods when you send in your official registration.

Staff:

We will take moderators and scorekeepers who want to staff this tournament. All staffers not affiliated will be paid $18. You can sign up to staff here. All moderators specifically must have some experience reading at a quick pace.

Fair Play:
Please follow the NAQT Fair Play guidelines and srtive to keep two hands on screen at all times and preferably the buzzer screen as well. Cheating will not be tolerated at this tournament. If sufficient evidence is found, the cheating players will be banned from the tournament and disqualified from future tournaments that I host at my discretion.
