Re: Arkansas Quiz Bowl '24-'25
The Patriot Invitational field featured a number of quality teams, including three teams from LR Central and four from Russellville. Siddharth's LRC Gold team finished 6-1, their only blemish being a 280-275 loss to Russellville Black, a team composed of Ian Warnick, the Fuller twins, Sarah Shoptaw, and Logan Greggs. Seeing as Sidd's co-star Jeffrey was playing on LRC Black, I'd say that's definitely a quality loss. Russellville's 4 teams combined to go 23-5 with Russellville Black going perfect on the day at 7-0, Russellville Red (led by Veeran at 7.29 PPG) going 6-1, Cyclone Red (led by Gino Mascuilli and Alyx Dunaway, 5.29 and 4.43 PPG respectively) going 5-2, and Russellville JV 2 (led by Noah B. at 5 PPG). LR Central's 2-headed monster of Siddharth and Jeffrey was split in this tournament, with Siddharth (17.86 PPG!) leading LRC Gold with contributions from Elizabeth Dyer and Joseph Nichols (1.43 and 1.14 PPG, respectively). Jeffrey (11.86 PPG) led LRC Black to a 7-0 record with Margaret Qin and Daniel Witsell (2, 1.57 PPG respectively). Valley View's two teams, Gold and Blue, both went 4-3 in different brackets, with both teams employing balanced scoring. VV Blue's William Crader (3.43 PPG), Jack Lee (3.29 PPG), and Charlie Kelly (2.29 PPG) alongside VV Gold's Kaydan Tran (5.57 PPG) and Melissa Gao (2.43 PPG) could be the starting 5. LRC Silver was not as impressive, finishing 2-5, but they were able to keep it close against a solid VV Blue team, falling 235-165. Aaron Kathi (4.43 PPG) and Harish Ulaganathan (3.71 PPG) may find their way onto the state team as contributors.
After that tournament, my top 5 in the state is more or less:
1. LR Central (Probables: Siddharth, Jeffrey, Margaret Qin, Joseph Nichols, Aaron Kathi - LRC people, if this is nowhere close, feel free to flame me for being completely wrong)
2. Russellville (Probables: Ian Warnick, Keegan and Gidian Fuller, Sarah Shoptaw, Logan Greggs)
3. FS Southside (I have no idea who will start for this team besides Justin Han)
4. Haas Hall Bentonville (Probables: Reese Smith, Shruthi Nannapenini, Aaroosh Davalbhakta, Arjun Paradkar, Juan-Andres Quesada)
5. Mountain View (Probables: Austin McDonald, Adhi Anandaraj, James Nicholson, Sahara Goodwin, Jay Prasad)

Sounds like the tournament went great! Sidd and Jeffrey were absolutely stellar, really goes to show how individual players can shine on teams with multiple stars, and same goes for the entire Russellville squad lol, they’re awesome. Jackson, out of my personal curiosity, how does running a tournament on a Tuesday work? Did you guys start after the school day let out or have the players miss school and host at a separate venue?SomeArkansan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 2:26 pm All scores through the Patriot Invitational have been updated in the stats website.

Because my school is on a hybrid schedule, we are currently on a 2 week fall break. So we got lucky on this one. It just worked out because it was the only day we could host one at our school.justin.han24 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 9:15 pmSounds like the tournament went great! FS Southside will be. However, we are missing a couple of our starters, so don't expect any insane upsets.
We know Central will be there, are there any other big teams?

LRC A - 1st
Southside A - 2nd
LRC B - 3rd
Haas Hall Bentonville A - 4th
(from what I can infer)
the playoff bracket is on the LRCH Quiz Bowl Instagram page and the morning prelim matchings can be found on the "Rogers Public Schools Advanced Programs" facebook page most recent post
I also believe that the top 2 scorers for LRC were split amongst the A and B teams but am not positive.

Re: Arkansas Quiz Bowl '24-'25
The tournament went well. Ty was right with the rankings as Central A (my team) got first, followed by Southside A, Central B (Jeffery's team), and Haas Hall Bentonville A. Overall, the questions were well written and good for teams to have some fun. They weren't too in-depth until the semifinals game. The finals game was insanely hard, being the only game of the day where no teams got past 200 points. I ended the day off scoring 1460 points (20.86 tossups per game). You can find the scores for every game on the lrchquizbowl insta page, but I'll put them down here with my stats per game as well. Thank you to Rogers Heritage High School and Mr. Barham for hosting a good tournament.
Morning Rounds:
R1 vs. Haas Hall Bentonville B: W (450-185)
R2 vs Rogers High School: W (360-245)
R3 vs. Rogers New Tech: W (425-180)
Afternoon Rounds:
R4 vs. Huntsville B: W (445-70)
R5 vs. Bentonville A: W (410-130)
R6 vs. Haas Hall Bentonville A: W (305-205)
R7 vs. Southside A: W (195-160)
My Stats per game:
R1: 24
R2: 22
R3: 22
R4: 27
R5: 21
R6: 19
R7: 11

We scraped by the semi with a 30 point butt clencher against Jeffrey’s central team (250-220 IIRC) and another butt clencher against Sidd’s team in the finals but lost that one by 35 (160-195). They’re both awesome players and our battles were well fought, both coming down to the last half of the fourth quarter. The questions definitely ramped up in the afternoon, as you could probably tell from our scores against central, but I thought it was fun to play quiz bowl as a knowledge game instead of a speed game for a change lol (besides the math idk what’s going on there I just sit with my pencil looking like I know what I’m doing). I got 840 across 7 games for 12 TU/game. I don’t know my other teammates’ averages though. Overall another great tournament and such a fun experience. Camp is next, and I hope to see you all there. Re: Arkansas Quiz Bowl '24-'25
1. LR Central A, or LR Central Varsity, or whatever they call their state team (7-0) - Siddharth and Jeffrey dominated at the Russellville tournament. I'm not sure when this unit will play with both of them on it (possibly Friends of Quizbowl?), but expect them to run wild whenever they do.
2. Russellville Black (7-0) - Gidian and Keegan Fuller, Sarah Shoptaw, Ian Warnick, and Logan Greggs is an INSANE starting 5. this is the only team that has beaten LRC Gold this season, and they can do it any which way. At Marion, it was Gidian Fuller taking the lead, averaging 6.71 PPG, but I could see the Fullers, Ian Warnick, or Sarah Shoptaw leading this team. It just depends who's hot. Hopefully we get a chance to see them play the LRC state team.
3. LR Central Gold (13-1) - In the last two tournaments, Siddharth has led LRC Gold (regarded as LRC A in the Heritage tournament) to a 13-1 record, scored around 18-19 PPG (rough estimate), and has beaten FS Southside A 195-160 and Haas Hall Bentonville A 305-205. This team isn't without its contributions from chairs 2-5, of course - Coach Sannon is too good for her teams to rely on the talent of only one-two players - but Sidd is the hum of the wheel for this team and has kicked off his junior year in dominant fashion. Their only blemish is the aforementioned 280-275 loss to the most stacked team in the Natural State.
4. FS Southside A (12-2) - I'm not sure who else is on this team besides Justin, but I do know that 1). this team almost beat LRC Gold at Heritage and 2). this team DID beat LRC Black at Heritage. Josh Adams is in the conversation for the best coach in Arkansas and this team should be able to compete for the top spot in every event they play. Justin is one of the best Humanities players I've ever seen (all-stars '22 and '23) and is probably the clear-cut second best player in this year's junior class. The Mavericks team that played at Heritage was down a few starters and still managed to give the best player in Arkansas and his team problems.
5. LR Central Black (13-1) - The other half of LR Central's two-headed monster, Jeffrey led LRC Black (regarded as LRC B in the Heritage tournament) to a 6-1 record at Heritage, but came up short in the semifinals, as the Tigers lost 250-220 to FS Southside A in that game. They did beat Haas Hall Bentonville A 170-150 in the third place game, though, and this team gets valuable contributions from its role players, as any good team should. They should compete in all their matches and will likely win another tournament before the year is done.
6. Haas Hall Bentonville A (5-2) - Haas Hall Bentonville A kicked off their season at Heritage this past Saturday. I haven't gotten stats for them yet, but Haas Hall Bentonville will always be one of the deepest teams in the state and should be able to dominate the NWA circuit, with their only real equals in that area being their Fayetteville counterparts, who they beat 310-210 at Heritage in the playoffs. Those two teams will be ones to keep eyes on as the 3A race becomes more clear.
7. Mountain View (6-1) - Adhi has arrived. Previously a role player, the junior and former JH MVP averaged 5+ PPG for the Yellowjackets in the Russellville tournament. Austin McDonald, a senior, leads this team in scoring, and this is a deep team that can pull contributions from all of its players. Allen Bishop has his team coached well and they should be able to remain in the thick of the 3A title race.
8. Batesville (5-2) - Losing HSNCT All-Star Alexander Tenace to graduation certainly set this team back, but they rebounded somewhat nicely in the Russellville Preseason, going 5-2 behind a balanced attack led by Mai-Lan Ho, Asher Stroud, and Kenna White (A FRESHMAN!). This team should get better with every tournament they play, and I expect an all-tournament showing from Mai-Lan this season. This is also a younger team, and if they win it all this year, I don't see much stopping them next year either.
9. Cyclone Red (Russellville..B?) (5-2) - Whether they go by Cyclone Red or Russellville B, this team will be dangerous throughout the year. Gino Mascuilli and Alyx Dunaway (the latter being a part of the NAC Title team from 2024) led this team to a 5-2 record in the Marion tournament, and they should be able to compete in almost all their games.
10. Haas Hall Fayetteville (4-1) - It's disappointing falling to a rival in the playoffs at the Heritage Invitational, but taking away a 4-1 record, a win over 7A hardware contender Fayetteville, and still being one of the strongest teams in a very deep 3A is still something to be happy about. HHA Fayetteville should still be a great team this coming year, and they may avenge their defeat later in the year. I'm sure this isn't the last time they play Haas Bentonville.

Re: Arkansas Quiz Bowl '24-'25
one time there was a question about hyperbolas or smth (no idea what it was) and it was about like the equation of it and it was smth/64 pi and smth/121 pi and I had no idea what to do so I just said 88 (bc sqrt 121 is 11 and sqrt 64 is 8, 11x8 is 88) and the answer was 88 pi I was lowk mad lol
Late side note: I believe all question content used before this coming AGQBA season is obsolete because of the LIQBA contract, so the question content revealed here is clear, mods

Thank you , honestly I'm not as strong as I used to be, but that's solely because the knowledge in our team is now a lot more divided up, so I can focus more on other subjects rather than being a complete all around player. I still study a good amount of general stuff, but it's been so much better to not have to focus on history as hard honestly.Somewhere in the Stratosphere wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 7:22 pm Since there's a very important tournament happening this Saturday, I would like to treat all of you wonderful people on this board to a huge ramble about what I expect to happen in this tournament, and about the precedence this tourney could hold for the remainder of this season. The Harding Invitational, one of two pyramidal tournaments scheduled during the year for Arkansas, boasts a very strong field of Little Rock Central A, Little Rock Central B, ASMSA A, ASMSA B, Batesville, Conway, White Hall, Conway Christian, Central Arkansas Christian, and Gurdon. Of those ten teams, 7 will be playing in their first events of the season, and nine will be playing in their first pyramidal events in at least a year. The tournament will be run on set IS-232A, and teams that finish well can qualify for the 2025 iterations of the HSNCT and SSNCT. This tournament could tell us a lot about the 7A. LR Central has already proven itself to be the frontrunner in 7A, but ASMSA and Conway are unproven. Jacob Lewis was a star at Clinton last year and should only get better, and the ASMSA team seems to have been needing that kind of firepower to make a run. Conway loses Ellie Feng, but they are almost always relevant and have a huge student base to pull from. We will also see how well Conway Christian rebounds from finishing outside the 2A top 4 last year, and whether they have a shot at taking that top spot following Haas Hall Bentonville's move to 3A. I can't wait to actually see some of the people I'll play against from that team besides Nathan Hill, assuming Hazen and CCS eventually play each other, which I expect will happen. Dormant programs Central Arkansas Christian and Gurdon have a chance to explode onto the scene, as neither team has won anything of note in a long time. We'll see where Gurdon fits in the 2A title race, as we will with Central Ark. Christian in the 3A. Batesville has the opportunity to test the NAQT waters once more after the graduation of Alexander Tenace. The Pioneers have been pretty balanced scoring-wise, and their top two scorers will be back next year. But, with the loss of an HSNCT allstar, can this team return to the top of the mountain in 5A? We'll have to see how their results compare to White Hall, another team that seems to always be in the mix at some level in the 5A.
As I have developed carpal tunnel after typing all of that, I suppose I'll see myself out now.

Re: Arkansas Quiz Bowl '24-'25
Not being as dominant of a scorer doesn't really equate to not being as strong of a player, I mean Shawn Cafferty-Lueck didn't magically get "weaker" from basically soloing 7A state as a sophomore at LR Central to scoring less total points per game at Russellville two years later (RIP Shawn's junior season, COVID robbed us of the GOAT's second season), he just had stronger teammates as you do nowJLewis wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 10:25 pmThank you , honestly I'm not as strong as I used to be, but that's solely because the knowledge in our team is now a lot more divided up, so I can focus more on other subjects rather than being a complete all around player. Update from my coach: Hazen will be playing in either Friends of Quiz Bowl or the Morrilton Tournament, as we are targeting tournaments which simultaneously host JH and HS teams. It's not much, but it's a start towards getting this team back on the up and hopefully back on statewide TV for the first time in 9 years.

I believe both tournaments are split into 1-4A and 5-7A divisions, meaning unfortunately we probably won't get a match between us, but it'd be cool if we did. Whichever tournament we go to will be taking JH and HS teams, meaning I'll have some semblance of an idea how good our JH team is after the event.
