Vilonia was unable to compete in any agqba sanctioned competitions because the agqba finals conflicted with the date to NHBB

Looks like the rich are getting richer next season. Defending 7A champions and consensus #1 team in Arkansas LR Central not only have the outstanding duo of Siddharth Sridharan (7A MVP) and Jeffrey Robinson (2nd in Sr. All-Stars), but they are also moving up freshman Daniel Witsell (6th in Jr. All-Stars). This team will have an improved Sridharan, an improved Robinson, and a senior high newcomer and allstar finalist in Witsell. So, yeahh....

We’ve gotta see about that depending on how rusty we are after the summer. I was able to get two all tournament packets read and I didn’t do too bad after being out of touch for about one and a half weeks (first game buzzed out at 14 against my team and second game buzzed out at 21 against my team). I’m sure Jeff is gonna be on point though bc he’s just one of the most clutch players our program has ever had. He plays really well in the death which is what really matters as opposed to me as I tend to sell when I’m under pressure 😅

Yeah maybe a little exaggerated but like theres a difference between buzzing out at 14 in AGQBBA and then NAQT, which is what I really need to aim for

Hi, I'm Justin Han of Fort Smith Southside. I never knew this forum existed, and I think it's very cool that Arkansas Quiz Bowl has a community! I'm quite happy with how all stars turned out, congrats to everyone who made it and placed. I managed to hold onto a lead in the morning, ending up with the 2 card, but fending off a room with 3 top 5 finishers proved to be the end LOL. I have to say I was quite surprised by the quality and length of the questions. Everything was one or two sentences max, and it ended up becoming a speed game rather than a knowledge game sometimes. I was very very happy to hear a Godel Escher and Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid question, which I've been wanting all year. Overall, I'm happy with my placement and to be able to meet so many cool people throughout the day. I know I can come back next year armed with even more knowledge, and I hope to see a lot of you guys there! A final congratulations to everyone who participated in the All-Star tournament and a thank you to everyone who is involved in Arkansas Quiz Bowl for making such a high quality program!

Between you, Siddharth, and Maddox, all of my All-Stars demons are resurfacing..LOL. As for your point about the questions, I could not agree more. The lockout buzzer system became more of a focus in the game than pure knowledge. Now, is it important to be good on the buzzer in quiz bowl? Obviously, yes. But the game shouldn't just devolve to the moderator reading three words and then - random, loosely related guesses all around. Micah Autrey of Morrilton unfortunately fell victim to that in the semifinals I'd wager (I didn't play against him, so I don't 100% know), because he was more conservative on the buzzer. He'd usually wait for the moderator to at least finish the first clue before buzzing, but by then usually one of the random guesses rang in. Luckily, with the onset of LIQBA questions next year, that may be less of a problem.

Ayyyyy, yeah that's genuinely how I felt about the questions as well. They were too straightforward and not based on the actual depth of knowledge a player should have but just making it more of a buzzer race. I feel that AGQBA needs to start progressing towards 4 sentence questions even though its a lot because the general population of players these days seem to know a bit more than how the general population did about two or three years ago. The questions also need to be more pyramidal going from difficult to easy as the question progresses almost like Mr. McKnight's questions that he writes for the tournament y'all host. I feel that if those changes are made to the AGQBA questions, then we can see a true showcase of talent instead of just buzzer races happening most of the time lmao

For all interested, I am making a QBreader for the Arkansas forum. This is intended to help with preparing for invitationals, regionals, state, or All-Star tournaments; however, it is open whenever you need it. Change the categories, difficulties, whatever, it doesn't really matter. The link is: https://www.qbreader.org/multiplayer/AR ... ivate=true

The format is still how it is, there are still 50 tossups for a one hour game, and size restrictions. LIQBA will do what it can to make the experience better than it was but its not going to be a switch to NAQT style overnight. AGQBA can also edit and change any questions for their final project that they wish.

I understand that, and hopefully we can push for NAQT style tournaments at some point, but we have to take our wins where we can get them

NAQT questions are lengthier and pyramidal, with more niche clues toward the beginning and more general ones as the question goes on.

So when I'm using QBreader, I use level 1 and 2 questions (MS to easy HS for junior high), and simply old packets of games help. There's not exactly an abundance of junior high games anywhere unless your coach has them lol.

Continuing on the heels of the 24-25 state champion predictions, who do we think will be the best players in the state next season? My personal picks for each classification would be as such:

1A: Aiden Watson (Emerson) is a 14.5 tu/gm scorer at the JH level coming into a 1A circuit that isn't super talent-rich, with only one returning all-tournament player in the class in Brayden Minyard of Armorel. He's a pretty strong math player with sufficient knowledge in other subjects. My only concern is that he might not be able to utilize his strength for math bc he won't know a lot of the senior high comp math concepts.

2A: possibly me? idk: I am already a 12.2 tu/gm scorer at the senior high level (granted, without the kind of help other high-level players get) and, with Immanuel Peter, Parker Carroll, Alex Moeller, and Bryce Mallett graduating, it's time for a new crop of players to inherit the 2A. This pick is mainly because a ton of the talent already in 2A is graduating out, I could also see Luke Jones and Evan Cole challenging this spot at some point

3A: Tyson House (Cedarville) is a 13.75 tu/gm scorer coming into a replenished 3A with the departure of Craig Hoien, Trent Wickham, and Austin McDonald. House was not a finalist in the 2024 all-stars tournament, but with a full-scale rebuild taking over the 3A as a whole, House should be a top scorer in the class for a while. Look for Anant Borad to be on this list next season as a T5 all-stars player this past season.

4A: Noah Clayton (Trumann): with Jacob Lewis' move to ASMSA, I see nothing stopping Noah Clayton and his Trumann team from winning the 4A this coming season. Even though this list is completely on an individual basis, I still see Noah Clayton being the best player in the 4A next year.

5A: Micah Autrey (Morrilton) is an 18.4 tu/gm scorer at the JH level and is coming onto an already strong Morrilton senior high team with Wesley Sardin making the all-tournament team this past season. Autrey is a conservative buzzer unless he is confident in a certain question, which, despite spelling his semifinal doom in the all-stars tournament, is a coach's best friend in team competition.

6A: Alexander Reyes (LR Catholic) is the defending 6A MVP as a freshman, with 9 tu/gm. Don't overthink it, he'll be the best player in 6A for the next three years.

7A: Siddharth Sridharan is the consensus best player in the state as a sophomore, with a depth of knowledge unmatched by anyone who I've ever seen play. He'll be absolutely insane the next two years. Oh yeah, he also has two all-star teammates next year with Daniel Witsell (JH All-Star finalist) and Jeffrey Robinson (Sr. All-Star runner-up).

4A: Jacob Lewis (Clinton) is a 13.2 tu/gm scorer at the senior high level as a sophomore with Evan Shrout (who was undoubtedly the best 4A player this past season) graduating. Noah Clayton will be in the discussion for this I imagine, but, as an individual, I think Lewis is the better player.

Alexander Reyes is such a dawg😭 I think Ian Warnick of Russellville will easily contend with him though. Ian averaged like 7.25 at their regionals with being on a loaded Russellville team (Hayden, Crawford, and Sarah all averaged 5+).

That's fair, he also placed well in All-Stars, but I still think Reyes will be the best player in the 6A for the next few years because I feel he'll be more accustomed to being the #1 guy on a team, as opposed to being one of four all-stars on one squad.

Just wanted to point out that 2016 Hazen, led by the program's most accomplished player Samuel Harper, was the last true public school to win the 2A quiz bowl title, with Conway Christian winning in 2017 and 2018, Haas Hall Academy Fayetteville winning in 2019, and Haas Hall Academy Bentonville winning in 2021, 22, 23, and 24.

Batesville will be playing at HSNCT this weekend, 7 prelim games today, and 3 tomorrow
You can watch their games via live scoresheets through NAQT. Good luck to them and I hope to see more Arkansas teams register in the future, its super fun and competitive and the quality is top notch.

And to finish off the first day of prelims Batesville goes 4-3 in the afternoon rounds with 3 games to go. Batesville has tied their overall wins last year where they went 4-6 and are facing the possibility of making playoffs if they win 2/3 matches tomorrow. Alexander Tenace (7/44/1) with a 69.23 average also has the possibility of receiving the all star award if he can maintain his tossup averages and finish in the top 40 for prelim individual stats. If so he would join Claire Bishop of Mountain View and Shawn Cafferty Lueck of Russellville as the only Arkansas players to make HSNCT all stars in recent history, and if they made playoffs they would join Russellville as the only Arkansas team to make HSNCT playoffs in recent history

Exciting results so far, tomorrow we will see how far they can make it.

Good job to Batesville on finishing afternoon prelims with a winning record. They had some impressive wins, namely the win over Maggie Walker C.
