SUPERNOVAS Available for mirrors (HS Regs+, 2024-2025)

Post by henrypanqb »

What is goody in the hoodie guys,

I am very pleased to announce SUPERNOVAS (Set Unabashedly Provided with Excellent Research by Northern Virginia Scholars.) The questions will be targeted at regular+ high school difficulty (a 4 on QBReader), the set most similar in difficulty would be DART (all iterations excluding IV). I, Henry Pan, will be serving as head editor/logistics coordinator. As said in the name, a majority of our writers and editors are from the esteemed province of Northern Virginia.

Our Writers and Editors: Henry Pan, Caden Zhang, Deven Hagen, Chris Yoo, Alan Fan, Aarushi Kanigicherla, Sophia Guo, Ryan Zhang, Samuel Li, Andrew Huang.
Although our team is comprised of many new writers, we will do our very best to ensure that this set is of the very best quality. To help with that we have two very cool people, Cavan Gabaldon O'Neill and Thomas Casalaspi, to guide us on our packet making journey. On top of that, once the set is finished (est. early August), we will conduct rigorous playtesting to make absolutely sure that our set is top-notch.

SUPERNOVAS will have 14 packets of uniform difficulty, each containing 20 power-marked tossups and 20 three-part bonuses, as well as an extra half-packet of replacement questions. Tossups are between 550 to 650 characters in length, bonuses are capped at 650 character. Our category distribution is as follows:

4/4 Literature (Henry Pan, Cavan Gabaldon O'Neill)
(1/1 American, 1/1 British, 1/1 European*, 1/1 World)
We are also aiming for a balanced distribution of Poetry, Drama, Long Fiction and Short Fiction (1/1 per packet)

4/4 History (Deven Hagen, Cavan Gabaldon O'Neill)
(1/1 American, 1/1 European, 1/1 World, 1/1 Ancient/Other History)

4/4 Science (Caden Zhang, Aarushi Kanigicherla)
(1/1 Biology, 1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Physics, .5/.5 Math, .5/.5 Other Science)

2.5/2.5 Fine Arts* (Alan Fan)
(1/1 Visual, 1/1 Auditory, .5/.5 Other )

2.5/2.5 RMPSS (Henry Pan)
(1/1 Myth, .5/.5 Philosophy, .5/.5 Social Science .5/.5 Religion)

1/1 Geography (Caden Zhang)
1/1 Current Events (Caden Zhang)
1/1 Trash (Henry Pan)

*AFA will include Jazz and Opera, OFA will be Architecture, Film etc.
*Classical Literature will be included in European Literature

The mirror fee to use SUPERNOVAS will be $20 for non-host teams, though a $5 per-team discount will be applied if the host sends us conversion statistics, preferably TJ Sheets or MODAQ.

Additionally, we are trying to promote quizbowl to incipient quizbowl programs, so if this is your school's first tournament we will only charge $10 along with the $5 discount.

This set is also available for use at college novice tournaments.

We hope to have mirrors in every U.S. region and even internationally. If you would like to use SUPERNOVAS, please email me at [email protected] with the subject line "SUPERNOVA Mirror Request"

Are there going to be editors per category for this set?
