2nd Carmel Greyhound Invitational (3/16, HFT, Carmel, IN)

The Carmel Quiz Bowl Club is excited to announce the second Carmel Greyhound Invitational (CGII), a regular-season tournament. This tournament will be held in-person at Carmel High School on March 16th, 2024. This tournament will be directed by Anthony Pho and Brian Pho with assistance from Anna Liao, Noah Kahn, and our club advisor Matthew Cinkoske. For now, we maintain a tentative field cap of 16 teams. However, if there is enough interest, we are open to expanding the field to additional teams.

This tournament will run on Harvard “Fall” Tournament (HFT XV), a regs+ question set which is between the difficulty of the IASP State Championship and national championships such as HSNCT and PACE NSC. More information about the questions can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=26689

Teams will consist of 4 players (more can rotate in and out as substitutions, maximum of 6 players on one team).

Games will consist of two 10-tossup halves, with 3-part bonuses. There will be 15-point powers for early answers and 5-point negs for incorrect answers before the end of a tossup. There are no bounce-backs on bonuses.

Registration will take place through emailing “[email protected]” with your school name, number of teams, adult supervisor contact information, and the discounts you are claiming. Please include “(your team) CGII Registration” in the subject line. All teams must have an adult supervisor. One adult can supervise multiple teams. We would prefer if rosters are submitted with this email, but we will also send out a reminder to all registered teams about rosters closer to the tournament date.

The finalized schedule and format will be sent out closer to the date, but we estimate the tournament to last from 8:30 AM to around 5 PM Eastern Time with an included lunch break. Registration closes on March 10th, 2024.

Eligibility:
This tournament is primarily aimed toward Indiana schools. Schools outside of Indiana can register, but they will be waitlisted, and will not formally be accepted until registration is closed. Waitlisted schools will be admitted in order of registration, and based on field size.

Schools may submit more than one team to this tournament. If you wish to submit multiple teams, please designate each team by decreasing strength with a letter, starting with A. For example, if Carmel High School were to submit 3 teams, we would expect their strongest team to be named Carmel A, the second-strongest to be Carmel B, and the third-strongest to be Carmel C.

Fees and Discounts:
Registration: $80 per team, $70 for each additional team
-$5 from overall registration fees for each working buzzer set with at least 8 working buzzers.
-$5 per 100 miles traveled one-way. Distance decided via Google Maps.
-$20 New to quiz bowl discount (has never played pyramidal quiz bowl or has not played pyramidal quiz bowl since 3/5/2021)
Minimum fee of $50.

Payment:
Payment must be made by cash, accepted the day of the tournament, or by a check made out to the "Carmel High School Quiz Bowl Team." We will send an invoice with instructions to each team that registers. Please contact us if this system does not work for you.
