2024 Volunteer Spring (3/2/2024, IS-224)

Post by GallatinGOAT2020 »

Hello all. We are pleased to announce the 2024 Volunteer Spring Tournament, to take place on March 2, 2024, here at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. This event will be open to closed high school teams of all skill levels.

We will be using NAQT’s IS-224 for this tournament. Coaches, please double check to make sure your school has not and does not plan to attend a different tournament using this question set. Register here.

The initial field cap will be 16 teams, with the possibility of expansion due to adequate staffing and school interest. Book prizes will be available for the top 10 individual scorers from the preliminary rounds, as well as the top two teams overall. To be eligible for an individual scoring prize, a player must hear at least half of all tossups their team plays during the preliminary rounds.

Payment:
$100 base fee for each team
(-$5) per functioning buzzer set
(-$20) per experienced staffer
The minimum fee for this tournament is $75 per team.

Payment can be made in a variety of ways (cash, check, online) and is due the morning of the tournament. If you plan on paying via check, or need any additional documentation, such as an invoice, etc. please reach out to me directly.

Format:
We will be using regular 20/20 untimed NAQT rules, including negs (-5) and powers (15). This tournament will not have bouncebacks. Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets, then into playoff brackets based upon record with ties broken by PPG. If we hit our field cap, each team will be guaranteed 10 games. Statistics will be kept in full.

Sign-in will begin at 7:30 AM Eastern, the introductory meeting will begin at 8:00, and the first round will begin at 8:30. Ideally, the tournament should end by 4:00.

Location:
This tournament will take place within UT's Humanities and Social Sciences Building (HSS). Specific directions and parking information will be available closer to the tournament date. We will not be serving lunch or any sort of food on-site, but there are a variety of restaurants available within a short distance from campus.

Contact:
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].

We hope to see you there on March 2nd!

Per University policy, every attending school must have at least one adult chaperone throughout the duration of the tournament.

Congratulations to Merrol Hyde, who defeated Cookeville A in a one-game final to win this tournament. Cookeville B finished third based on a statistical tiebreaker.
