[Postponed to 2/24] Rowan Snowglobe Novice Quizbowl Tournament - Rowan University (Glassboro, NJ)

Rowan Quizbowl is pleased to announce the Rowan Snowglobe Novice Quizbowl Tournament on February 24th, 2024. The tournament will run on the QUAOAR question set. The tournament is intended for new-to-quizbowl schools and new players of established teams. The initial field cap will be at 12 teams, but may expand if there is interest.

Logistics
The tournament will take place at the Chamberlain Student Center and Discovery Hall. Check-in will begin at 8:00 AM in the foyer of the Chamberlain Student Center Ballroom, and will conclude at 8:40 AM. The opening meeting will take place in the ballroom at 8:45 AM. Matches will then begin at 9:00 AM. We aim to conclude the tournament no later than 4:30 PM.

There will be a break in the middle for teams to get lunch. There are many excellent lunch locations within walking distance, and directions/suggestions will be given to teams the day of the tournament. Details about where to park and directions to the tournament location on campus will be emailed to teams about a week prior to the tournament.

Eligibility
Because this is a novice tournament, the following eligibility restrictions will be in place.

Students at any grade level who have never played a pyramidal quizbowl tournament before are automatically eligible to compete. IU competitions, televised leagues, jeopardy competitions, and other local competitions do not count for the purposes of this rule.

Players who do not fall into this category must meet these four requirements to compete
1. Is enrolled in 9th or 10th grade during the 2023-2024 school year.
2. Has never been on a team that made playoffs at MSNCT or SSNCT.
3. Has never been on a team that went 4-6 or better at HSNCT.
4. Has never scored more than 20 PPG at any non-novice high school Quizbowl tournament prior to the 2023-2024 school year.

Registration
To register for the tournament, please fill out this form. Teams that bring their buzzer systems or volunteers will be given a discount to their registration fee. The deadline to register is February 19th at 11:59 PM.

Teams may have a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 players per registered team, although up to 4 players may play at one time. Schools can bring as many teams as they like, but if a school is bringing more than six players, then they must split into two teams.

About a week prior to the tournament, registered teams will receive an email asking for rosters.

Fee Structure
$80 for a school’s first registered team
$70 per subsequent team
-$10 per buzzer system a school brings
-$10 per staff member a school brings
-$10 per team for any Title I Part A eligible school
-$20 per team for any school that has not competed in a pyramidal quizbowl tournament in the past three years

All teams must pay either the day of the tournament or beforehand. We prefer to accept payment during check-in right before the tournament starts. The minimum fee is $40 per team. Payments can be made via cash or check. Please make checks payable to “Rowan University.”

Is there a middle school field for this tournament, or is it just for novice high school players?

Unfortunately, there won't be middle school field for the tournament. If your middle school is a combined middle-high school, your students would be eligible to compete for their school. The field will be for novice high school players, which, for schools brand new to Quizbowl, is open to students of any grade level as long as their school has high school students.

There are a few middle school tournaments in the area that might require a small drive from Glassboro, and they can be found in this link. Let us know if you are interested in any more middle school tournaments and we will be able to give out reccomendations.
