GDS's MS/ES QB4ALL Invitational (DC) - Feb 24, 2024

Post by RandyNeppl »

GDS Quizbowl is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first middle school quizbowl tournament on February 24, 2024, from 9:00am until (approx.) 5:00pm. (Registration will be from 8:15-8:45am). The tournament will be in-person at GDS’s middle school (4200 Davenport St, NE, Washington, DC 20016). We will have both middle and elementary school divisions making it a great tournament for both expert and novice/younger students. All students will participate in 8 rounds, and the question set will be NAQT MS-50.

QB4ALL Partnership:
GDS is proud to partner with Quizbowl for All (QB4ALL) to provide quizbowl to all interested students. If any students receive free or reduced lunch (or registration costs would otherwise be prohibitive), registration fees will be waived.

Tournament Fees:
Base fee per team: $80
Reader discount: $20
Buzzer discount: $5
QB4ALL discount: $20/student (Registration fees are waived for all students who receive free or discounted lunches or if registration costs are a hardship.)

To receive discounts, please let us know here: https://forms.gle/MeLXctJo334tfY3x7

If you have volunteers, please let us know here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... sp=sf_link

MSNCT Qualifications:
The top 15% of all teams will qualify for the Middle School National Championship Tournament (MSNCT). While teams in the elementary division (6th grade and younger) will count toward our total number of teams, elementary division teams are not eligible for qualification. So, if your team is looking to qualify, please register in the middle school division.

In other words, if we have 18 teams in the MS division and 12 teams in the ES division, the top 15% of total teams will qualify (15% of 30 total teams is 4.5 teams, which rounds up to 5 teams). So the top 5 teams in the MS division would qualify for MSNCT.

Payment:
We will accept payment through cash or check on the day of the tournament.

Registration:
Please register through NAQT. We will start by capping the middle school division at 18 teams and the elementary division at 12 teams. We will expand the fields depending on interest.

Food:
For lunch, we will be selling pizza. There are also many restaurants within walking distance.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Randy at [email protected].

Thank you!
