DAWGWATER Trash Set call for mirrors - Open/HS friendly

Post by SpaghettiVibes »

Hi everyone,
I am pleased to announce a Trash set, DAWGWATER (Definitely A World-class Game Written And Totally Edited Right), written by MSstate quiz bowl team and alums, available for mirrors after October 21, 2023. This set encompasses a wide variety of pop culture from different eras, though there is a particular focus on media produced in more recent years. This set also values diversity in media, and pays attention to highlight media created by historically underrepresented groups (eg, underrepresented ethnic minorities, the disabled community, and gender/romantic/sexual minorities.)

We also believe this set to be a uniquely highschool-friendly Trash set. There is no profanity or especially lewd material in the questions themselves, though some of the media being written about, of course, may not be intended for younger audiences– this is a set written by and for college students, primarily about the media we consume and enjoy. If you want any more detailed information regarding this, please feel free to DM or email me.

We will be producing seven packets. Mirrors will be $10/team attending.

Set details:
TUs are between seven and nine lines long at 12pt Times New Roman font, and are not powermarked. Bonuses have no specific length requirements, but are reasonably short.

Packets will consist of 20 TUs and 20 Bonuses, with a distribution as follows:

4/4 Screen
3/3 Music
2/3 Internet Culture
3/2 Video Games
2/2 Sports
2/2 Pop Literature
1/1 Stage
1/1 Fun & Games
2/2 Other

Each packet will also include 3 “tiebreaker” TUs and two replacement Bonuses. These tiebreaker/replacement questions will all be from the “Other” category.

If you are interested in mirroring this set, please shoot me an email at [email protected]. We would love to see a mirror of this set in each circuit!

Very excited to play this. Is there any plan for an open online mirror?

We are hoping an open online mirror will be hosted at some point in the spring or early summer, after any in-person mirrors have concluded, but we don't have any more concrete plans towards that at this time.

Update: this set is being delayed indefinitely due to some timing conflicts hosting the main tournament at MSstate. We will update when we have a new proposed date.
